Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Disappointed with cancellation of Cedar Cove. It was a good series. No closure on the storeylines that kept us tuning in each week. Thought Hallmark was better than other channels. Also, change to series Sundays not in your best interest… too much competition. Will not be following any new series on Hallmark. Minimal concern for viewers.
I was disappointed to read that Cedar Cove was not returning for another season. I kept wondering when the new season would start then I started seeing ads for all the other programs but not Cedar Cove. So I googled and found out it had been canceled. It would have been nice to have at least one more season rather than leave everyone hanging.
Lupe
I’m extremely disappointed that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I watched all 36 episodes and was looking forward to more.
So, it seems, that shows lacking intense violence, nudity, and unrealistic special effects are doomed in our society that is constantly seeking thrills instead of substance. Cedar Cove explored mature topics that allowed viewers to become invested in the characters. I am deeply upset that Hallmark has not at the very least allowed its viewers closure with a series finale special that answers the questions raised in the season 3 finale. Once again we’re told it’s ratings but I have to question this reason since I feel confident that Hallmark, being an experienced network, must know that summer programming traditionally… Read more »
Ratings about the same for the other two scripted shows; reason they snuck out in the night so to speak appears to be that AM did not want to continue… I have been a fan of hers from the beginning but I am done with her and Hallmark.
It makes me sad that there will not be a Cedar Cove. I really enjoyed the series. I read the books and they were great. The series leaves so many unanswered questions. Hallmark should do a movie and try to get things answered for the fans. Very disappointed in Hallmark.
I enjoyed watching Cedar Grove as well. I agree that it would have been better for you to have a few episodes with a finale instead of just stopping it. Your regular Hallmark channel isn’t as good as it used to be as everything is now on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. It’s a shame it can’t all be on the same channel as there would be much more variety than the same shows and movies again and again. I chose a cable package to have Hallmark, but it’s more expensive for Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
I was anxiously awaiting the return of Cedar Cove just to sadly discover it was cancelled. Too bad, my husband and I loved watching it.
I find it disappointing that 1.67 million viewers didn’t count with Hallmark
I am so sad that Cedar Cove won’t be returning. It was such a good series. It was my time to myself that I’d sit down with my coffee and relax.
It would be great to have at least one or two final episodes to answer all the questions. Seriously we deserve to know what Olivia says!!!!
Very upset the show was cancelled. It was great wholesome TV. Because of the show, I went and read the series. I was looking forward to what happens next to each character. Please bring it back.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove is cancelled. Really enjoyed this hallmatk series. Many of my friends also watched this program and looked forward to the next episode. There are aot of us Canadians that enjoy the Hallmark movies.
I was shocked and very disappointed to see that Cedar Cove was cancelled. I read all the books in the series and there was plenty of story lines to make a long run. I was especially upset that they didn’t even do another season to have an ending instead of leaving it that way, not knowing what happened to the characters. Shame on you Hallmark..
Cedar Cove was/is a great wholesome series. It’s a total shame that it was cancelled prematurely, actors great, just a feel-good type of show. Our society needs more of that! Wake up producers, directors, etc. The numbers mean nothing without the support behind them. Them being the people that look forward to watching the show your channel promoted initially. At least come up with a closure episode. Where it left off, there were many directions this show & the characters could have gone on to…shame to not see those avenues explored.
Absolutely the show should be renewed.
I can’t believe the garbage Hallmark has been putting on the air dealing with murder mysteries. I’m seriously considering cancelling my subscription with all the idiotic murder shows.
Cedar Cove and the romance movies with substance are the only reason I haven’t cancelled.
I was really bummed to learn that Cedar Cove had been cancelled. I looked forward to seeing it every week during its season. I wish Hallmark would stick with the series they start.
