Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
My husband and I had been looking forward to the next season of cedar cove until tonight when we heard about a “Chesapeake” something show starting July 17 in Hallmark ad. We thought this was suppose to be the start of cedar cove season 4. This is really disappointing! I hope Hallmark will reconsider this show.
Very disappointed. My friends and I have been looking forward to the next season.
I am so disappointed that Cedar cove has been cancelled! I am so tired of reality tv shows. I loved the wholesomeness of this show and would like for it to be brought back.
Mom and I are very disappointed. Please, at least do a final movie. Don’t just leave the fans hanging.
I finally got the hallmark channel where we live and now come to find out Cedar Cove wont be returning for another season. That is very disheartening. I love that show and the cast.
Read all the books and loved the series. Am very didsapointed it has been cancelled.
I am so distressed!! I am a newcomer to Hallnark and think that the network is making a mistake underestimating new viewers. My cable company was late to the party getting Hallmark!
At the very least, have a series finale movie to tie up the loose ends. Otherwise, hogwash!!!
Very disappointed to see you are dropping cedar cove. Love the storyline and characters. Tired of reality shows and miss the weekly dramas such as this. Please bring it back!
Why would you cancel Cedar Cove? It had great ratings! It was such a great show. Its hard to find a wholesome, interesting, funny, and engaging show like it was! Please bring it back!!
Very sad to hear of the cancellation
Very disappointed that Cedar Cove series was cancelled. Have read the whole series of Books and enjoyed seeing them portrayed. Hope you will bring it back some day. (many of my friends are very disappointed too)
I am very disappointed – I was looking forward to the new season, the continuation of life in Cedar Cove…isn’t 1.67 million viewers enough???? I always thought Hallmark, although a for profit network, was in the business of continuing good wholesome entertainment- I enjoy the programming and Cedar Cove was a part of that…so sad
What? Huge disappointment. Hallmark keeps repeating programs over and over again and we finally find a fresh new program without violence and is down to earth, you go and cancel it. I think it’s time to find a new channel to watch.
Please bring cedar cove back
why not cancel it, kill off the best shows on tv to make room for more reruns of 25-30 year old shows, some times I think i’m on tv land, first they cancelled sign sealed and delivered that made a llllooootttt of people mad, so now that the last show they had that was worth even tuning in the station is gone, so am I so long to the hall mark channel, every time I turn it on its a tv land rerun, morning and night, hallmark has really gone down hill. at least they still have Christmas movies for… Read more »
