What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the SundanceTV cable channel, Cleverman stars Hunter Page-Lochard, Rob Collins, Iain Glen, Frances O’Connor, Deborah Mailman, Tasma Walton, Rarriwuy Hick, Jada Alberts, Rachael Blake, Tony Briggs, Clarence Ryan, Taylor Ferguson, Rob Collins, Stef Dawson, Ryan Corr, and Jack Charles. The supernatural drama draws inspiration from Australian Aboriginal mythological traditions. Set in the near future — when beings of Aboriginal legend live among humans — the story moves between two worlds: The City and The Zone. In the “regular world” of The City, uniformed, armed Containment Officers patrol the streets to keep people “safe” from Hairypeople, whom the government deems subhuman. Only the Cleverman — a chosen one — has the power to reunite these two worlds and discern the real evil behind a murderous spree terrorizing everyone.

Telly’s Take
Although season two premiered with low numbers (even for a small cable network), Cleverman is a joint production between SundanceTV and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, so its success down under will play into whether it is cancelled or renewed for a third season. Word is that it’s not doing well there either. I’ll keep a hungry eye on the ratings but I suspect that Cleverman won’t see a third season. I had the good fortune to stumble on this show last year. It is my absolute favorite show since the short lived Space: Above and Beyond (1995-1996). But I like this one even better! I pray this one is not cancelled. I would love for netflix to pick this up but they are becoming more ratings seekers as well lately. If someone starts a petition to the network I’ll sign it.
Cleverman…. absolutely love this series. Season one was low budget and refreshingly Un-american. From a U.K point of view it was fascinating to learn about aboriginal folklore. The story is gripping and holds all sorts of questions about the differences between peoples and how we treat them or in the aboriginal case, how we have treated them. I REALLY hope this gets a third season, it’s a fabulous showcase for Australian t.v. and I desperately want to know what happens next!

There has been a large cancellation of television series that have been extremely intriguing and thought provoking. Cleverman provides me with that creative mix of story telling and allows me to want to know more about the compelling characters. It saddens me that numbers effect what we the viewers are subjected to watch. I believe that Cleverman deserves more seasons to enthrall it’s loyal audience.
I agree. I understand the ratings game but now and then can’t we just have one program for the few who love it… I love it. Both my daughters love it. And my granddaughter loves it. Now more than ever we need a show we can lose ourselves in that has a definite good and evil side. Where we can cheer on our favorite characters. Cheer for good to win. And give us hope that maybe in our world, one day good will win.
Agreed! Let us have closer please. So many shows go out like this and usually when they have not truly been given a fair chance to truly be seen. Hardly anyone I know gets/has access to Sundance but they love the show when they see it at my home.
This show is great and I would hate for it to end. I also hate the fact it only has 6 episodes per season but I guess there is nothing we can do about that. Of all the fantasy/supernatural type TV shows I watch, this is definitely one of my favorites. I always have to watch it after the fact because I don’t have Sundance and if this is what happens with a lot of other people then that might account for why the ratings are not as high as they could be. This is a brilliant series! It could definately go for a 3rd!! It kept me at the edge of my seat throughout both seasons. Cleverman is clever!! I say yes!!! Watched in London U.K.
Genius show. Please renew it, ABC (Australia), and air it round the world. There never was a better time for such brave programming than now. As i watched the 6th episode of season 2, i was wondering how many lives might have been saved if radio europe had aired such a drama back in the early 1930s.
I don’t watch TV, but I’ve made an exception for Cleverman. It is as good as Stranger Things on Netflix. It most certainly should have a third season especially considering how season two ended. The only reason why more people haven’t watched it is because they don’t know about it; lack of proper advertisement. I’ve told everyone I know to watch it because it is one of the best shows I have ever seen. It’s original and very well done cinematically, I myself am a filmmaker so I should know this personally.
Oh my god!!! They are thinking about canceling this show???? Someone somewhere needs to desperately talk some senserious into whoever would make that decision. It shouldn’t be cancelled it should be put on an American prime time giant network. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life…. and I hate watching tv. If it got bad reviews it is simply being advertised wrong and to the wrong demographic. You can not end the show like that. I will go insane. At least put it on Netflix, I think they have picked up a couple of shows that have been cancelled by the networks if I am correct? I’m not sure but if not they could with this show and I know people would watch it. I myself would totally binge it all in one night 😉
Cleverman should be renewed for Season 3, it’s first class production and excellent acting is what we need more of on Australian TV.
This is some of the best Australian drama we have had. Please renew for season 3. I will be very disappointed if they don’t.
There is not another tv series anything like this show. One of the most original, and I like that they use real Aborigine actors not just white people in black face!
