In its freshman installment, the Code Black TV show earned low ratings for a CBS TV series. Instead of cancelling though, the network renewed it, with the requisite cast changes. Its numbers fell further last year, but it still wasn’t cancelled, probably thanks to licensing deal concessions. Will the third season see the audience grow or further diminish, and if so, how low can it go? Will Code Black be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned. **Status update below
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Rob Lowe, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, and Moon Bloodgood. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black. .
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The second season of Code Black averaged a 0.97 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.984 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Code Black TV series? Should this CBS TV show have been cancelled or renewed for season four?
**5/24/2017 Status Update: Code Black has been cancelled by CBS. Details here.
I love Code Black!, I didn’t get into it until the third season, so couldn’t help get the ratings up. I have watched all three seasons now, and can’t believe it is cancelled. I wish Netflix would pick it up. It was a pleasure to watch such great acting, especially Marcia Gay Hardin. It is rare to find shows with a strong female lead.
Code is one of the best shows on tv I don’t know why they always cancel the good shows and bring on something not worth watching. I would who make this decision. That why Netflix and Hulu and other streaming networks are getting the viewers and network tv is loosing out.
Please bring back Code Black! The story lines were getting good!! There is absolute nothing good on TV these days…except Code Black AMD it was cancelled. Still don’t know why as other shows had lower ratings and were renewed. BRING BACK CODE BLACK! please.
Please bring Code Black back. PLEASE! I love this show and all of the actors in it. I watch every single show.
