ABC has made a decision about the fate of their new Conviction TV show. The network has decided not to order any episodes beyond the initial 13 episodes. Has the series been cancelled? Could it return for a second season?
A legal drama series, Conviction follows what happens when attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, gets “blackmailed” into joining the Conviction Integrity Unit. It’s a NYC department that re-examines cases when there is suspicion of wrongful conviction. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
It’s no secret that the Conviction series has been struggling in the ratings. The series debuted in October to a disappointing 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.17 million viewers. The numbers saw a sizable drop in week two and got even worse in later weeks. This week’s installment fell to a new low with just a 0.6 in the demo and 3.64 million.
Deadline reports that ABC isn’t ordering any additional episodes but the network hasn’t officially cancelled Conviction. They’re keeping their options open by keeping the cast under contract, just in case they want to order a second season. This scenario will sound familiar to fans of other ratings-challenged ABC dramas from years past. Typically these shows don’t end up being renewed, many viewers about them, and they are quietly cancelled in May.
For now, ABC is expected to air the remaining eight episodes of Conviction. However, with such poor ratings, it seems unlikely that they’ll keep it in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot.
It’s worth noting that the network recently cut the episode order for their low-rated Thursday night series, Notorious.
What do you think? Do you like the Conviction TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Please do not cancel Conviction. I find the show and cast really excellent with interesting storylines. I get tired of getting into new shows and then having them go away, Notorius is another good show I am hearing is going away. Come on ABC stick with these good shows.
“Conviction” is a favorite break of ours! Our Parent Team LOVES this show. Hayley Atwell knows the recipe to make a character more than your average character! PLEASE do not cancel this show in such haste. It’s truly one of a kind!
Would love a second season!
I hope that you will not cancel this show I really love it!
Yes why do all the tv shows that are good, or have the potential to being good get cancelled. When does common sense take over. As a senior who cannot travel from app to app enjoy and look forward our shows Give us a break
Wow! Why is that that all the great shows get cancelled and mindless tripe stays on air? A quality show – I hope it gets picked up by another network.
I’m donew with ABC every show I watch on here doesn’t make it passes the first season but they don’t cancel the crapays shows that they air…
Amen to that! I feel the same way about ABC!
This is a great show. Please keep this show and renew it for a season 2, I think that ABC should give viewers more time with show before pulling the plug. It take time to get around to watching all the new shows and most time when I finally get through them they get cancelled. Keep this show love the cast and the storyline.
I really like the show and looked forward tonward to watching it. Find a different night, if Monday doesn’t work. Saturdays really lack on all the networks.
This is a great show. Cancel the boring Notorius and RENEW Conviction
The Shows characters had to grow on you. I was hooked by the end of the third episode. Now I love the acting and writing…our favorite for this season.
It’s a great show, but as with any network, it’s all about the ratings. I’d like to see another season, but it’s really up to TPTB at ABC.
My spouse and I like it a LOT. Great writing, and great acting. It’s our favorite new show.
I fell in love with this tv show while watching the first episode. It is an amazing show that I found out about through my father who works on the set, I do really really hope they make a season 2!
There are few tv shows that warrant my consideration. Our networks and other channels are so cluttered with the reality show mentality. It does not require any IQ over a 50. Snob maybe… but if Im going to pay for TV or even watch the network channels they have to provide some tv shows that requires a thought process above the current social media/reality thought process. Conviction was one of those shows. Wheres my kindle?
