A day before the network’s official upfront presentation for advertisers, CBS has cancelled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. The spin-off will end after just one season.
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior follows a highly-trained team of agents who operate within the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). They use unique and hard-hitting tactics to bring down some of the country’s most dangerous felons. The TV series stars Forest Whitaker, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Kelly, Beau Garrett, Matt Ryan, and Kirsten Vangsness.
While spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles got off to an immediate great start back in 2009, the same can’t be said for CBS’ latest spin-off, Suspect Behavior. In February, it debuted to a 3.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 13.06 million viewers. That was a solid start but then the second episode dropped 27% to a 2.4 rating and 9.8 million. By the fourth episode, it had fallen to a 2.2 demo rating.

The ratings have gone up and down a bit over the course of the season but has gone as low as a 2.1 in the demo a couple times. It currently averages a 2.4 rating and 9.84 million viewers, more than a whole point below its lead-in and parent series, Criminal Minds. Those numbers put it squarely on the bubble for renewal.
There was talk about bringing Suspect Behavior back for another round, possibly after doing a revamp, but the network’s decided against it. They likely have other procedurals waiting in the wings that believe can do better so CBS has cancelled Suspect Behavior after one season.
A baker’s dozen of episodes have been produced and so far, 11 of them have aired. The remaining two are expected to run tomorrow and next Wednesday night, May 25th, as previously scheduled.
The series finale is called “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and finds the team tracking a serial killer who randomly shoots people in crowded areas.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior won’t be back for a second season? Why do you think this one didn’t catch on?

This totally sucks that it’s cancelled – it was so good! Booooooooooooooooooo!
Racism? Seriously? I didn’t watch Suspect behavior because Janeane Loudmouth Garafalo was in it, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one who felt that way. As for people not watching a show because it had “black people with the principal roles” is about as about as lame of a reason as I’ve ever read. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had Avery Brooks as the lead and it ran for 7 great seasons! That’s one example, sure, but it illustrates my point.
This just sucks and it’s the main reason why the mainstream networks are losing in the ratings game.
You wouldn’t have this happening on HBO, SHOWTIME, AMC, or any of the non network stations.
I was so looking forward to season 2 of this fantastic series. CBS you blow big chunks
This was a great show with great plots and cast. I love the show and watched it weekly. I find it had to believe it is cancelled. What are they thinking..
i think it is a crime not to continue this show. You have a show like kate plus 8 with 8 bratty kids and kate who thinks is the boss of bosses. I can’t understand how such an awsome show can be cancelled. You should be ashamed of yourself
I am mad about this being cancelled! I loved it and I am so angry that i am not going to get to see what happens next. Why let it end on a cliffhanger??? Stupid people, they clearly don’t know a good thing when they have it
I hope they have a change of heart – or another network picks it up. I loved the show – while not as great as the original, it had potential. Maybe casting Janeane Garafalo wasn’t the best – only because one does not associate her to a serious crime show – the rest of the cast was interesting and had good chemistry. I’m sorry to see it go and even more saddened that we will never know the outcome of the season one finale. 🙁
This show was a cliche from day one! A stoic, emotionally deep leader; a short, dumpy, mouthy, liberal; a tough, super-macho dude; a gorgeous girl (of course!); and some random outsider (in this case a British fellow-I know: weird!).. Is it any wonder it ran for as long as it did? Eleven episodes was ten too many! Good bye to bad rubbish!
Finally !!! CBS makes a good movie…this series blew from day one. After they ruined the original series by dumping both females, they dared to try and make this?
The acting was cold and the stories were slow paced…..the really best this of all of this is that we won’t have to see the piss poor acting of Janeane Garofalo and she can go back to what she does best, be a leftwing liberal, Obama asskisser!
Goodbye CMSB….I’ll take the original anyday!
How did you turn that into a political statement?
i wish you didn’t have to cancelled the show because the show had great possibility some of the show were boring but that how a lot of the new show start off i really like the show i watch it any Wednesday night when it came on i wish you would have given them more interesting story lines go back and watch them on an episode of criminal minds that was an great episode make them more human give them lives outside of the job but put a little twist too so are you going to let us know you… Read more »
I don’t blame the CBS network because the ratings don’t lie. Who I blame is RACIST America that just like with the “The Unit” they will not watch an interesting show if there are black people with the principal roles. I think that Suspect Behavior started off very well with an explosive finale and it deserved at least a 2nd season to conclude the first season.
CBS, you have lost touch with your viewing audience, Forrest Wittiker an oscar winner and great actor, check out his protrayal of Charlie Parker in the movie ” Bird”. The 13th episode ended with “TO BE CONTINUED”!!!! Just like the sitcom “No ordinary family” after I watched the first two episodes I downloaded all 20 episodes, I live in Germany and I watched the whole season to the cliff hanger for season 2 and just like you CBS , it was cancelled due to low ratings. Instead of cancelling shows because of low ratings take a poll on the faithful… Read more »
are you serious omg just watched the last episode of season 1 how can they just leave us hanging like that with such an awesome show. im heartbroken and disapointed what bs
I LOVED EVERY episode!!! It was fantastic. I agree… go jump!! Stop cancelling all the good shows!!
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior
How can you possibly cancel a show as great as this? Forest Whitaker is
a genious. CBS *was my fav. All I had to do every night (except Fri) was turn it on and done for the night. You leave a soap opera like “Good Wife” (a terrible show that I wouldnt watch if paid) and cancel good shows. What oxymorons you
are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don’t care about the viewer….All you care about are your precious ratings. Take a long walk off a short pier!
