A day before the network’s official upfront presentation for advertisers, CBS has cancelled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. The spin-off will end after just one season.
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior follows a highly-trained team of agents who operate within the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). They use unique and hard-hitting tactics to bring down some of the country’s most dangerous felons. The TV series stars Forest Whitaker, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Kelly, Beau Garrett, Matt Ryan, and Kirsten Vangsness.
While spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles got off to an immediate great start back in 2009, the same can’t be said for CBS’ latest spin-off, Suspect Behavior. In February, it debuted to a 3.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 13.06 million viewers. That was a solid start but then the second episode dropped 27% to a 2.4 rating and 9.8 million. By the fourth episode, it had fallen to a 2.2 demo rating.

The ratings have gone up and down a bit over the course of the season but has gone as low as a 2.1 in the demo a couple times. It currently averages a 2.4 rating and 9.84 million viewers, more than a whole point below its lead-in and parent series, Criminal Minds. Those numbers put it squarely on the bubble for renewal.
There was talk about bringing Suspect Behavior back for another round, possibly after doing a revamp, but the network’s decided against it. They likely have other procedurals waiting in the wings that believe can do better so CBS has cancelled Suspect Behavior after one season.
A baker’s dozen of episodes have been produced and so far, 11 of them have aired. The remaining two are expected to run tomorrow and next Wednesday night, May 25th, as previously scheduled.
The series finale is called “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and finds the team tracking a serial killer who randomly shoots people in crowded areas.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior won’t be back for a second season? Why do you think this one didn’t catch on?

Great job scheduling a cliffhanger episode for a show that looked like it was going to be canned, CBS! Been waiting for MONTHS to see what was going to happen. If there was a chance of cancellation, you shouldn’t have done a cliffhanger. Idiots. Great job. See if I watch any more new CBS shows.
I love Forest Whitaker the movie star but this show was not his finest hour. Sort of like the way Lawrence Fishburne didn’t translate well to CSI. Just to show color isn’t involved, Ashton Kutcher and Ted Danson are not going to keep their respective shows safe from cancellation.
Danson is especially hard to take. From playboy bartender to angry doctor to scientist? Maybe if he actually tried to act it would help. Kutcher replacing Charlie Sheen? That is worse than Charlie Sheen replacing Michael J. Fox.
I liked criminal minds suspect behavior more than the original and I really like the criminal minds. As an aussie we have to wait for it to air in the us before we see it. So it was over before it began here. I loved it just watched the final show, how can they not tell us what happened to beth who shot whom?? 🙁 bring it back. it was great. Love the characters love the dynamics . Forest Whitaker was awesome. 🙁 I watch all my tv on line. I have 4 young children and don’t get to sit… Read more »
CBS really dissapoints me. That is why that network is becoming a second rated network, vis-a-vis NBC and ABC. Stupid a-holes had to cancel a show that I’ve anticipated, looking forward to the second season. Shame on CBS…..really sad.
sorry * NCIS
I’m sorry they cancelled it. One thing people from other countries complain a lot about is how, in the USA, networks cancel a lot of shows and never give an ending to them. It’s very upsetting (even if a bit ridiculously so) when you invest yourself in a tv show and learn that it won’t even have an ending. I liked this show, a LOT more than any NCSI, but I don’t really like NCIS. I’m more about Criminal Minds, Law & Order, CSI (not Miami though). Anyway, I was really hopeful they hadn’t cut the show, but oh well…I’ll… Read more »
bring this show back the reason i think it didnt do so well was because people dont watch tv that much anymore anyone who is 13-30 years or even older probably watches full episodes for free on the internet so that would explain the big loss for viewers during the first season. if you brought this show back i believe it would pick up it has good potential to be just at intense as the original criminal minds you just need to keep it going
I had no idea this was cancelled. I was just googling when season 2 would start and found out it was cancelled! I am super upset. I am huge HBO/TMN Series fan, and this was actually a network show I LOVED!! I admit – it was PVR’d a lot, but hey, I have 2 little ones…PVR is the way of the future. Other than the news, I don’t watch anything live!! I am so upset… this show was fantastic!
Rascism!!
Cornelius Reddick » No, more like “ratism” – prejudice against shows that don’t generate enough revenue to pay for themselves.
Loved the show, Forrest was ok but his team was great!! Bring it back but you can leave Forrest off!
PLEASEEEEEE bring it back!!!!!!
I think with cable and satellite companies offering dvr but not creating a way to determine what consumers are dvr’ing for ratings is the absolute silliest thing. I think that is why a lot of shows daytime, night, and prime-time are being cancelled. People work, go to school, have families so they use their down time to catch up on shows they like but cannot catch them at the times they air and because of that viewers are being punished because their “dvr-voice” is not being counted.
I agree, they are also not taking into consideration those of us who stream or download our shows. I Looked for it on Pirate bay as soon as it finished airing every time.
Evil Peaches » They aren’t going to take those viewings into account because they don’t help to pay for production (via commercials).
So sad! I loved suspect behavior! Bring it back. Season 1 finale was an awesome cliffhanger.
It started off slow, but so did NCIS LA. The chemistry took a few episodes to click. Same with the storylines. If they brought it back I think it would have made it. Loved it near the end.
maybe they should have advertised it a bit more to get more people to watch it. if i wouldnt have looked at the tv guide i wouldnt have known about this great show.. please bring it back!!!!!!
