It looks like Cristela Hernandez has a bright future ahead of her — unfortunately the same can’t be said for the Cristela TV show. ABC has cancelled the sitcom after one season of 22 episodes.
On Cristela, a young Mexican-American woman (Cristela Alonzo) works to become an attorney while juggling her responsibilities to her traditional family. The rest of the cast includes Maria Canals-Barrera, Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Gabriel Iglesias, Sam McMurray, Justine Lupe, and Andrew Leeds.
The sitcom debuted in October 2015 and attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.5 million viewers. That was a decent start for a Friday night show but the ratings lost quite a bit of steam over the course of the season, falling as low as a 0.8 demo rating with 4.1 million viewers.
Those numbers weren’t good enough to mandate a second season so ABC has decided to cancel Cristela instead. The final episode aired on April 17th.
What do you think? Did you like the Cristela TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?
Why,why do the networks cancel all the good shows. Christela is a good show. It needs a chance to show how good a show it really is. Why not air it at a different time slot while all the reruns are on? Let people see how good it really is.
I can not believe they cancelled this show!!!
Is there any way that we can vote and undo the cancellation ?
I m shocked that Cristela was cancelled. That was such a funny show. I use to look forward to Fridays. All we see on TV anymore are Whites and Blacks. Oh, I forgot, lots of gays. No other races get a chance. No Asians, no Mexicans, etc. I believe that there is still a lot of prejudice in this country. Especially on TV and the news media. It’s a miracle that the Devious Maids are still on. If you look closely at the TV shows you’ll see that the main characters are white or black. The George Lopez Show was… Read more »
I loved Cristela and will miss it a lot.
I just found out last night that Cristela has been cancelled, I can not believe this. I am usually a person who does not care about what comes and goes on TV shows because if it has to do with crime, gangs, and make believe backstabbing industries I am pretty sure it will stay on for years to come, and it will become Americans favorite show with our young population and absent parents. When I began to watch this show I was pleased to see that they were bringing out the struggles and changes in our culture, and showing our… Read more »
I am surprised that the show was cancelled. I think another day might have helped it. They deserved another season. I enjoyed the premise of the show. A great family show.
Please bring Cristela sitcom back. It is the best reflection of a true Mexican American family in the US. Finally, there is a tasteful and appropriate tv series about MXA’s and it is canceled. Many of my MXA friends in NM and LA watched it, looked forward to watching all week and it’s canceled! I was so disappointed. You guys got it wrong. I’m going to appeal to NBC and CBS to feature since ABC canceled it. The MXA market is untapped and Cristela was the beginning of a good quality Chicano sitcom.
I am heartbroken about the cancellation of the show. It was my Friday night goto. The show that both my husband and daughter could watch as a family and each relate to the show. The airtime lacks the Cristela kind of shows where the characters are the stereotypical hardworking loving families. Bring Cristela back!!!! Many of the Hispanic families I know are full of attorney’s, engineers, and scholars in general. Why is this stereotype not the media norm.
I just learned Cristela has been cancelled and I’m very disappointed. It was a clean, funny sitcom. I’m a 65 yr. old white female and was married to a Hispanic & living in the San Antonio, TX area, I could relate to the Hispanic culture. With the Hispanics being the fastest growing minority race in the country, I’m surprised Cristela didn’t attract a larger audience. I’m sorry to see it go.
Another good one gone! I’m a white 55 yr old female. This show had clean laughs. I am sick of all of the sexy, filthy, comedy’s on TV. 2 broke girls is disgusting. Two and a half men was funny until it became so vulgar. Last man standing is one of the best shows on, thank God! Hot in Cleveland was great and now it’s gone. The 20,30, something’s probably aren’t even home to watch much. How about appealing to the rest of us?
As a 66 year old white male,I found this to be one of the funniest, entertaining sitcoms out there! Growing up in Tampa Fl., I was immersed in Latin culture and be it a Latina Mama or a Irish Mama one can relate to the love of family! Cudoes to Cristela Hernandez, you are funny on the level of a Lucille Ball. Keep up the good work!
We were starting to really look forward to Cristela; I don’t think they gave it much of a chance. I have to admit we watched it because it came on after Last Man Standing, which we love, but Cristela turned out to be an entertaining show. Too bad!
This really sucks! I thought this was perfect after last man standing!!!!! I felt is was really funny and family friendly! Friday night though I feel is a hard time slot, a lot of families and people go out to dinner and stuff on Friday nights. I think they should give it just one more season and see how it does!!!
I actually just found out that Christella has been canceled and as a 40 something white male, I am very saddened by the news it was a good family comedy show and I think its very sad that ABC would cancel it after 1 season very upset… I really hope and pray someone else picks this show up and runs with it. As for television on Friday’s people don’t really watch regular television and a show about a woman, let alone a single Hispanic woman comedy I really think ABC jumped the gun in cancelling the show its sad to… Read more »
I think you should keep the show on the air. There are not many shows about Mexican- Americans on T.V. and basically we are the biggest majority of Hispanics in the U.S. Maybe quit making all Latino shows stereotypes of what you think we act like and let our natural humor play out instead of trying to overwrite what you think would make us funny. No more bright crazy colors around the house,no more religious guilty aunts or grandmother’s and no more gang bangers or drug dealers. The truth is we are sarcastic, hard working, tired, and we do have bad tempers all… Read more »
