Last night, NBC aired the finale of Crossing Lines. The season ended on a cliffhanger that has viewers itching for season two. Will the show be renewed, or will it be cancelled instead?
Crossing Lines follows a former NYPD officer who’s become addicted to morphine and ends up working as a trash collector for a carnival in the Netherlands. The International Criminal Court recognizes his worth and recruits him to help investigate crimes that cross international borders.
The show stars William Fichtner, Marc Lavoine, Gabriella Pession, Tom Wlaschiha, Moon Dailly, Richard Flood, and Donald Sutherland.
The police procedural series debuted June 23rd to a disappointing 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.38 million viewers. The first hour ranked a distant third in its timeslot, easily beaten by a rerun of FOX’s Family Guy and the debut of Whodunnit? on ABC.
Though viewership is lower in the summer months, the peaock network could not be happy with these numbers. The later weeks saw them get even worse. Over the course of the season, Crossing Lines has fallen as low as a 0.5 demo rating and 2.51 million viewers.
If NBC were producing the Crossing Lines, there’d be no way that they would make a second season. There’s just not enough ad money to pay for the production.
Thankfully for fans, NBC doesn’t produce the show. Crossing Lines was jointly commissioned by TF1 in France and by Sony for their AXN channels.
NBC merely licenses the series so it costs them much less. Based on the ratings, it’s still extremely unlikely that the peacock network will air a second season.
However, there’s hope that another season will be produced by Sony and TF1. If that happens, another US channel could pick it up or, at the very least, episodes could be released on DVD. We’ll post any updates as they become available.
But, what do you think? Would you like to see a second season of Crossing Lines or should it be cancelled instead? Why didn’t more people watch? If NBC doesn’t want season two, which channel would be a better fit?
I love this show. Kind of hard to get into at first, but after a bit it grabs you like a rabid pitbull. Great acting, believable plot. It is, to me, a very cereberal series. enough action to keep it manly.
Love this show! Interesting twist with all the players from different countries. Dying to see what happened to Ann Marie, and Sebastian forgives Ava.
Please have season 2,we really like this show and it’s really getting exciting, after last night We really want to see what happens. Great Show!
Love his series. Intelligent story line, dialogue; flawed characters that draw us in; great script. Would like to see these characters develop and grow.
Please don’t stop now. Both me and my husband love it.
Please keep it running. My wife and I really like it.
great show, I would love a season two. You have to, there’s too many cliffhangers!
Love this show, need to know what happens next!!!! The storylines are just getting really good. I would definitely keep watching!
This is a great show and should be renewed…US viewers are so jaded and all they want to see is reality crap.. This is well acted, well scripted and has great locations..love the cross nationality as well in the characters. Always liked William Ficthner.
NBC – bring it back
I hope there is a second season. Good shows are hard to find. USA, TNT, TBS, AMC would all be good choices, although more people are able to watch the network channels. If it goes on SHO or HBO, I and many others wouldn’t be able to watch it.
Please bring it back – I enjoyed the show and want to see how the current story line ends.
One of my favorite shows! Never a dull summertime moment. The actors are great. I look forward to watching every week. Enough reality already. Television should entertain and not just feel like a day of “mall watching”.
“Crossing Lines” is one of the best shows to ever grace a television screen. How could NBC, or any other channel for that matter, go wrong with Donald Sutherland and William Fichtner and a cast of very talented unknowns? The writing is superb and the plot line is smart as well as intriguing. Of course this show doesn’t resonate with most viewers who are mindlessly enjoying the likes of “Duck Dynasty” and “Honey Boo Boo”, but there’s so many of these “reality” shows to choose from, give us intelligent viewers more choices – like “Crossing Lines”, for instance. If NBC… Read more »
There is so much drivel on television. This is an opportunity for NBC to catch up with CBS with viewers that have a brain. It is exceptional. Please bring it back.
Intelligent, stylish show. Love the international flavor and the unique, flawed characters. Please renew my favorite new show!
