Last night, NBC aired the finale of Crossing Lines. The season ended on a cliffhanger that has viewers itching for season two. Will the show be renewed, or will it be cancelled instead?
Crossing Lines follows a former NYPD officer who’s become addicted to morphine and ends up working as a trash collector for a carnival in the Netherlands. The International Criminal Court recognizes his worth and recruits him to help investigate crimes that cross international borders.
The show stars William Fichtner, Marc Lavoine, Gabriella Pession, Tom Wlaschiha, Moon Dailly, Richard Flood, and Donald Sutherland.
The police procedural series debuted June 23rd to a disappointing 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.38 million viewers. The first hour ranked a distant third in its timeslot, easily beaten by a rerun of FOX’s Family Guy and the debut of Whodunnit? on ABC.
Though viewership is lower in the summer months, the peaock network could not be happy with these numbers. The later weeks saw them get even worse. Over the course of the season, Crossing Lines has fallen as low as a 0.5 demo rating and 2.51 million viewers.
If NBC were producing the Crossing Lines, there’d be no way that they would make a second season. There’s just not enough ad money to pay for the production.
Thankfully for fans, NBC doesn’t produce the show. Crossing Lines was jointly commissioned by TF1 in France and by Sony for their AXN channels.
NBC merely licenses the series so it costs them much less. Based on the ratings, it’s still extremely unlikely that the peacock network will air a second season.
However, there’s hope that another season will be produced by Sony and TF1. If that happens, another US channel could pick it up or, at the very least, episodes could be released on DVD. We’ll post any updates as they become available.
But, what do you think? Would you like to see a second season of Crossing Lines or should it be cancelled instead? Why didn’t more people watch? If NBC doesn’t want season two, which channel would be a better fit?
Great cast great plot…deep and intriguing…please keep producing
Because there wasn’t much in the way of advertising about the shows onset its the type of show that will gain fans by word of mouth. The characters, locations and plots are interesting much more so than the usual pap. I for one hope that there is a season two. The two hour finale mot only introduced new characters it left many unanswered questions qhich I for one thught was very unconsiderate to itse loyal viewers.
This show is OUTSTANDING! Acting and production second only to Blue Bloods!
Love this show. Smart , intelligent, characters that you care about. I watch this on demand due to my schedule. Will be incredibly disappointed if it doesn’t continue. What we need another reality show???????? Crazy.
I really like this program, it’s thought provoking, grabs the viewer’s attention written for an adult Audience, & doesn’t try to dumb it down for us The other reason I like this show is because its new, & its not a copy cat of a
another show, knowing NBC the show will be canceled & in it’s place will be
a 1/2hr comedy!!!!
Don’t Cancel it, give the adults a really good TV series!!! 😀
I love this show. Not sure why more people aren’t tuning in unless its because not as much advertising was done about this show. I happened upon the debut and I’ve been hooked since.
A very good show, NBC always has very good police, drama shows.
The finale left many many unanswered questions, leaving the cliff hangers
unresolved would be cruel to the loyal viewers. NBC wronged us by cancelling
Harry’s Law last year, do not do the same with Crossing Lines.
Please run many more seasons! A very intriguing show.
hope it is renewed for another season- great crime show- enjoyed seeing parts of Europe!
Great show! It would be a serious shame not to continue. Hard to believe this could be outdone by silly reality TV. A quality show with an interesting story line it should be carried for many more seasons! I will be truly disappointed if it does not end up on one of the other cable networks. AMC, TNT and FX I agree are doing it right! Please do not drop this show!!!!
please re-new Crossing Lines love the show….
I loved seeing the locations in Europe and enjoyed hearing the various accents. Sad that ratings of reality shows are higher than an intelligent, interesting, beautifully filmed program like Crossing Lines. Great performances by Donald Sutherland and William Ficthner.
This show is Great!!! I love the storyline and the idea that it takes place all over the world and not just in New York or Los Angeles, etc. I do believe it’s going to need a new time slot because during the fall there are a lot of good shows that airs on Sunday nights. I’m pulling for you Crossing Lines!!!
I like this show a lot. It’s not dumbed down, and the international cast makes it different from the usual procedural crime shows. I have to admit that I never watch it at the original broadcast time (due to my schedule), but I’ve DVR’d every show and watch within 1-2 days, normally. I hope it’s continued!
I hope it is renewed
At last, an intelligent crime show! The reason it had such a poor following is putting it on Sunday night opposite PBS’s Masterpiece Theater.
Give us a break, bring us another season on a different night – say Monday???
