We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

Why cancel NY and leave Miami? It makes no sense!
I am really missing CSI:NY not being aired. It is one of the few worthwhile programs on TV. I’ve been reading other posts about CSI:NY and have to agree that It was better when Melina Kanakeredes was part of the cast. Sela Ward is a bit too smug for me, but the rest of the ensemble, especially Gary Sinise makes up for it. I think they need to put the show back on Wed. nights where it belongs. That was a great evening of TV. Sorry if it doesn’t fit into CBS’s age demographics. CBS needs to remember that there… Read more »
CSI Miami is pitiful. The acting is atrocious and the scripts unbelievable. How many times can we watch Horatio pull off his sunglasses, stair aimlessly at the ground, stay 2 irrelevant words, and put his sunglasses back on. The only thing worse is Undercover Boss…
Keep CSI: NY
I agree with Curtis and Robert. The CBS lineup is clearly superior because the other networks emphasize all their stupid reality shows instead of good old fashion family drama and action. Please don’t change your lineup, especially CSI: New York.
CBS has the best lineup on network TV. Please do not change anything. If it were not for the NCIS programs, the CSI programs, Hawaii 5 0, Person of Interest, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Unforgettable, and A Gifted Man there would be nothing on network TV worth watching.
Please don’t cancel CSI New York. I looked forward to it on Friday night. I don’t bother to watch Undercover Boss. If you have to cut one, cut CSI Miami and keep CSI and CSI New York. I don’t watch any of the reality shows.
Keep the show. It’s one of my favorites.
I looked forward to CSI New York every Friday. I was watching CBS from 7 to 10. Now I skip the 7 0’clock program. If you’re going to drop a CSI, drop Miami. I hardly ever watch it.
I also don’t watch any of the reality shows, which have nothing to do with the reality I know.
Please don’t cancel CSI: NY. I agree with the comments listed.. I watch all three, but CSI: NY is a favorite of mine. I have been a fan of Gary Sinise ever since I saw him in Apollo 13. I agree with the fan that wrote the comment about watching all the CBS programs. I, too, watch NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles along with Hawaii 5-0 and Bluebloods. CBS has the best programs and should not tamper with a proven formula.
Why would you cancel CSI NY and leave on Miami which is too hokey to enjoy. CSI NY is a great show, very believable, please leave on.
In my opinion, one of the reasons for the show’s poor ratings is Sela Ward. She is portrayed as being extra smart and extra worldly. My wife and I like the show except for her.
I agree that CSI NY is a tied favorite of mine with CSI. They definetely made an improvement with CSI by adding Ted Danson. But I have been a faithful viewer of CSI NY from the beginning, but it’s hard when they keep moving the night that it airs. I agree with others, you can get rid of CSI Miami, never have liked it and still don’t.
CSI:NY had the same demo number on Wednesday night that CSI now gets and the same number of total viewers. It is only underperforming in the demo on Friday because there is no demo on Friday night. Your article is poorly researched. Try harder.
Please don’t cancel CSI New York . It’s one of the few shows my wife and I both enjoy ! Gary Sinese is a great actor and and a really good guy . As a retired military , I try to keep up with all the things he does for all our people in uniform , and there are many !
It’s a great show with good people . Please don’t cancel it .
if you are going to get rid of one make it miami-h is so unreal!!!!
