Next week, TNT’s Dallas will complete its third season — the first full one without JR Ewing. How’s the TV show done in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a fourth season or will it be cancelled instead?
Airing on Monday nights, Dallas continues to follow the machinations of the dysfunctional and powerful Ewing clan. The cast includes Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Juan Pablo Di Pace.
The third season began airing in late February and the first episode was down by 11% when compared to the second season opener. That was a reasonable decline but then the second installment dropped by 27%. The numbers dropped even lower as the season progressed.
Year-to-year, Dallas is down by 26% in viewership and down by 38% in the 18-49 demographic. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series and that’s not a good sign for the show’s future prospects. It also has a large cast so that means it’s not a cheap series either.
On the positive side, there’s some financial incentive to keep the show going. Dallas is produced by Warner Horizon Television which, like TNT, is part of the Time Warner corporation. Also, at the end of season three, there will only be 40 episodes. That’s not enough for a syndication package so if the execs are on the fence about whether to renew or cancel, that could work in the show’s favor.
I suspect that TNT will renew Dallas for a fourth season but, with ratings like these, the show could certainly be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Have you grown tired of the new Dallas TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Update: TNT has cancelled Dallas after three seasons. Details here.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!
Keep!!!!! I love this show!!!!
I think there should DEFINITELY be a season 4. I record every episode, I look forward to Mondays. I think this is the BEST tv series by far that is being aired right now!!!! I would be devastated if this show was cancelled.
Renew Dallas. It is well written with great actors.
Definitely Renew. In my opinion, it is a refreshing break from watch all the crime shows like NCIS, Criminal Minds, Miami CIS, Flashpoint, Cold Case, etc.
RENEEEEEWWW!!!
best show ever can’t compare to those others on CBS
yes, Dallas should be renewed for a 4th season.
I love dallas it needs a season 4
Asbsolutly keep the show going all of the cast are fantastic. I love it and its an addiction.
Dump Elena and Ramos family, and focus the show back on the Ewing family and viewers will return. Ratings have plummeted because the writers are focusing too much on non-interesting characters like the Ramoses, Emma, the Cartel, etc…
This show has always thrived when it mixes family and business together. It’s a simple, yet strong, recipe for Dallas success.
very true Ramos do not interest me either Emma so so but judith Light she’s great
I love this show I grew up watching this show with my mom and aunt. Now with the new Dallas I’m enjoying watching it with my daughters. I hope it continues awesome show i know they have more story lined up. 🙂 please keep the show on.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE renew Dallas for Season 4!!!
I was and am a hard core Dallas fan. I love all the twists and turns, backstabbing and schemes! I like a show that keeps you guessing – Dallas always has the best plot lines and the most awesome cliffhangers – every week! Can’t wait to watch each week! Can’t ever say that THIS show is predictable (like so many other boring ones on TV). PS – I STILL can never fast forward through the opening credits – brings me back to my childhood days (13 in 1978 when it premiered.)
Bring back Victoria Principal and other characters from original
Please don’t end dallas I wait impatiently for mondays please don’t take it away. I watched thos show with my father when I was a child and it was the best time to sit up and enjoy with him so now as I watch it and he’s not with me r I p I still talks to him about what’s going on . Just reconsider another way. Thanks
The remake was good in the beginning. But has slowly slept away. Josh Henderson’s heart is not in it and it shows! They need to have the show still with Patrick Duffy et al, at the helm.
Too many needless sex scenes. Hey,I like them as much as anyone. But when there isn’t a point behind them, other than blackmail. It reminds me of a bad daytime soap.
This could have been TV GOLD ! But as usual….TNT does nothing to support their shows and the actors behind them.
