Next week, TNT’s Dallas will complete its third season — the first full one without JR Ewing. How’s the TV show done in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a fourth season or will it be cancelled instead?
Airing on Monday nights, Dallas continues to follow the machinations of the dysfunctional and powerful Ewing clan. The cast includes Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Juan Pablo Di Pace.
The third season began airing in late February and the first episode was down by 11% when compared to the second season opener. That was a reasonable decline but then the second installment dropped by 27%. The numbers dropped even lower as the season progressed.
Year-to-year, Dallas is down by 26% in viewership and down by 38% in the 18-49 demographic. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series and that’s not a good sign for the show’s future prospects. It also has a large cast so that means it’s not a cheap series either.
On the positive side, there’s some financial incentive to keep the show going. Dallas is produced by Warner Horizon Television which, like TNT, is part of the Time Warner corporation. Also, at the end of season three, there will only be 40 episodes. That’s not enough for a syndication package so if the execs are on the fence about whether to renew or cancel, that could work in the show’s favor.
I suspect that TNT will renew Dallas for a fourth season but, with ratings like these, the show could certainly be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Have you grown tired of the new Dallas TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Update: TNT has cancelled Dallas after three seasons. Details here.
Personally I don’t think they should cancel Dallas. I enjoy watching it. It’s just like everything else you like and they cancel it. Keep it on please….
I love Dallas!! I think the writing is great. It just needs more promotion.
Renew I love this show. I wish it would have more shows through the season. I grew up on this show. Do what ever it takes to keep it. I am not a TV person but Dallas gets my viewing every week.
I love this show. Please don’t let it be cancelled!!
Yes bring it back for season 4
DALLAS IS MUST SEE TV–THIS IS ONE FABULOUS SHOW. EVEN WITH JR GONE, THIS SHOW STILL ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O.M.G please for sure keep the show going. It is one of the best on t.v. today. Maybe more advertising on other stations. Many of my friends, who also watched the original, didn’t even know about it. It is so exciting and the hour goes so fast and always leaves you guessing what will be next, just like the original…..PLEASE RENEW..
RENEW Dallas; it’s the best show on TV!
Dallas should be renewed for a summer 2015 run and put on Wednesday nights again.
My husband, Steve, and I really enjoy “Dallas” and don’t understand why next week has (2) shows scheduled as the season finale!! Why is it going off so quickly with these new shows? We really would like to see this show to continue in the future! Is there any other way we can make our feelings known to the execs who make these decisions?? We are really disappointed, if this is the end of “Dallas”!!!
Thank you,
Pat & Steve Surett
This show must be renewed. It should be shown on Friday nights. It is up against WWF wrestling, and Monday night football. these are the two reasons for the low ratings. We want season 4.
Hello I am deaf and Dallas avid. This show is good. I like it. I caught up on old dallas series. Now new dallas. It looks good to me. I like John Ross because his attitude is similar like his father. I like his character. I hope it would keep to 4th season. I hope new writer(s) to keep the rating climbing like Dynasty. If same writers, please think and write on a good script to draw more viewers. Thanks
Love the show! Avid fan! I love the script and all the characters. Gotta keep Dallas!!!
Dallas second half of Season 3 is on fire. Amazing show. TNT needs to market this show better.
I know I’m holding out for the show to stay.
As much as this “drug cartel” storyline has been weak at best.
I still think there is a lot there they can keep us engaged with.
I do think that Pamela and John Ross are the strongest characters on the show.
Please TNT 1 more season
