As you may recall, ABC recently announced that they were reworking their Wednesday night schedule (in preparation for the return of Fox’s American Idol). That left fans of Day Break out in the cold as the Taye Diggs series would be pulled from the schedule after the December 27th episode had aired. There was some hope and speculation that the series would be moved to another night. We now know that’s not going to happen.
The Lost-replacing series Day Break has been pulled from the schedule even earlier than expected. The ratings for Day Break have continued to fall since its debut and the latest was no exception. The sixth episode, entitle “What If They Find Him,” attracted only 3.1 million households. As a result, ABC has yanked the drama effective immediately. Repeats of George Lopez and According to Jim will fill 8-10pm Wednesdays for the next two weeks (both sitcoms begin new seasons in January on Wednesday nights).
There are seven unaired episodes and, as of now, there are no plans to air them on the network (joining fellow dramas The Nine and Six Degrees). The good news is that ABC has said they will post the remaining episodes online, with a new episode being posted every Thursday for the next seven weeks. They may decide to release the episodes for purchase online via iTunes but I’m guessing that will have a lot to do with viewer demand.
ABC is crazy. What’s a man gotta do to get closure to Brett Hopper’s situation?
This makes me sad! Air the shows! or Put the DVD out please!!!
How can they really justify canceling Day Break? Those pathetic ABC executives!!!! I planned my Wednesday evenings just to watch and enjoy every minute of that show. It one of the few shows my partner and I watch together. You had a great cast on that show. You think re-runs of George Lopez are going to satisfy my hunger for a great suspense-drama show like Day Break????
Pul-lease, you can’t be serious. Stop your shananigans ABC exec’s and put Day Break back on the air!!
what a stupid mistake, It was a gteat series! very very terrible to stop a series half way. NOT DONE!!!
This show hooked me from the beginning and was the perfect fill-in for “Lost” fans. I was busy in December, so missed the last episode on the 20th, but when I went to abc.com to watch it today, couldn’t find it anywhere. Please, ABC, put the past shows and the remaining ones on so we know what happens!
This certainly stinks. I don’t watch much TV, and “Day Break” was the only show on TV that I actually looked forward to seeing. Most of my other TV viewing is really more about hanging with my wife and chatting during the commercials. I had no clue that it was cancelled until I looked in the TV guide this week and saw that it wasn’t on for the third week in a row. I had assumed that it had been pulled during Christmas time to save it for January when more folks would be watching. It’s also frustrating because the… Read more »
I am very frustated waiting to see if there will be a chance to see the remaining episodes. If they have already been filmed, then why won’t they let us see them one way or another??? I would buy the whole season on DVD just to get to see what happens!!!
It is so disapointing that ABC does this.. it makes me not want to start watching any shows on ABC since you never know when they will pull it!!
Bring back Day Break. It was a different story line and well written. The reason why I usually do not watch weekly series is because when you get interested in a show they cancel it. I like shows that are well written with good actors telling a interesting or different storyline. Bring back Day Break finish out the series.
This is one of the biggest piles. I totally agree with some of the comments above that if ABC won’t treat us with respect, then we shouldn’t show them any. Daybreak was a great show. I am a huge Lost fan and wanted to boycott Daybreak because it took the place of Lost, but I gave it a chance. It turned out to be my favorite show next to Lost. I was actually impressed with how well of a show ABC had chosen, but then they had to go screw it up. I’m almost contemplating not watching the rest of… Read more »
This really is a mistake by ABC! This is the 3rd time in the last year and a half that I got hooked on a show that a network would pull without any notice to the viewers! The other 2 being Night Stalker and Surface! But the thing about Day Break was that it was starting to be my favorite show ahead of Lost! Maybe we can do what viewers of 7th Heaven did and write the network and bring the show back on the air! Heck if CW can bring 7th Heaven back then ABC can bring back Day… Read more »
Well, this was a great show. I couldn’t watch on Wednesday nights because of work, but I logged on every time I could to find the latest episode online. What a waste. I won’t insult the network decision makers ’cause I’m sure they know what they’re doing, but this was a great show and I sure would like to see the rest of it.
This is the second year in a row that a show I watched in its first season, on ABC got cancelled. First ‘Invasion’, now ‘Daybreak’. Both shows had great suspense and kept me hooked. How disappointing. Maybe I’ll stay away from ABC.
Hey just to let you know how much I liked daybreak I’m e-mailing daily the Higher ups at abc!!!!!!!! – good luck all Happy New Year!!!!!:
ABC sucks, guess a monkey is running the company.
Maybe it is decisions like this that keep people from watching your shows!! This is a difficult time of year for a lot of people to get into new shows….you know with the holidays and familes. From what I’ve read here it does not look like you will have any successful new series. I doubt that you would wait to find out anyway. The decent thing to do would be to release them for download off your website. I don’t want to hear you crying broke about the bandwidth or disk space either.
