Operatives Jones and Beneventi won’t be uncovering answers on NBC in the 2021-22 television season. The Peacock network has cancelled the Debris TV series for a second year.
The Debris TV show stars Jonathan Tucker, Riann Steele, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scroobius Pip. The story begins as mysterious wreckage starts falling from the sky. A secretive international agency named Orbital is tasked with figuring out what the wreckage is, where it came from, and most importantly — what it can do. British MI6 operative Finola Jones (Steele) and American CIA agent Bryan Beneventi (Tucker) are partners but they have very different styles. However, they have no choice but to trust each other as they track down the debris scattered across the Western Hemisphere. Each fragment has unpredictable, powerful, and sometimes dangerous effects on the everyday people who find it. They must race against time as shadowy outside forces seek these objects for nefarious purposes.
Airing on Monday nights, the first season of Debris averaged a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.79 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. Despite airing out of one of NBC’s highest-rated shows, The Voice, the drama was one of the network’s lowest-rated scripted shows.
The season finale of Debris aired on Monday night and not surprisingly left plotlines unresolved. The show’s series creator has talked about hoping to find a way to continue telling the story if it was cancelled.
Decisions have yet to be made on other NBC shows like Ellen’s Game of Games, Good Girls, Manifest, and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
What do you think? Have you watched the Debris TV show? Do you wish that this sci-fi series had been renewed for a second season?
leave it to NBC to cancelled a good show like Debris. I thought it was really good like the Xfiles. they need to listen to the viewers and put this awesome show back on! You get us hooked, then take it away.. nbc sucks
Loved loved Debris really good scifi. Please someone bring it back was a good combo of twilight zone meets xfiles. With a bit of intelligent older viewers loving it of course it will be replaced with some reality crap like we don’t have enough of that.
I enjoyed Debris from the very first episode I was hooked! Great story lines, not very well known actors but they are wonderful actors that can be related to.
I am so sorry and angry to learn the series has been canceled! NBC what in the world are you thinking!?
I watched this show on Hulu so maybe they’ll pick it up. This is one show I watched every week. I enjoyed the plot. Loved the actors. There are so many other shows that in my opinion could kick the bucket than this one. The only thing I can think of is that you put it on the same time as another good show. Since I watched it on Hulu I would think my vote counted as everyone else that watched it on Hulu. If you drop it now you are leaving so many unanswered questions that as loyal fans… Read more »
Wonderful, inventive well written show. Definitely not light viewing but well worth the time. Unfortunately in the era of quick, easy, cheap, but totally unfulfilling programming it didn’t stand a chance. When will the networks learn the importance of keeping long term viewers over channel flippers?
To be honest this show was very hard to
Follow, and not one that was really very good, I did how ever like the cast.
I knew Debris would be canceled because it is on network tv and it is unique and intelligent and NBC doesn’t know what good TV is in the SciFi realm.
Once again, networks prove they’re not interested in shows that are even remotely intelligent. Well, with Debris and Manifest gone they now have room for two more repetitive cop shows or 4 more brainless sitcoms. Yay.
NBC has a HORRIBLE HABIT of starting a show, & barely giving 1, maybe 2 seasons, then leaves it’s loyal viewers hi & dry. I agree, finally an intelligent & very interesting show that could have grown into a cult following. But I guess as usual the writers, just don’t know how to continue a stories, just bcz they started it out so interesting & intriguing, I don’t believe they know how to use their brains creativity enough, & are to chicken to put there money where their mouth are. Can’t you tell people are sick of the same ole… Read more »
