Tonight marks the end of ABC’s Deception TV show. The alphabet network decided to cancel the Sunday night drama series after just one season of 13 episodes. Why was it cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?
An ABC crime drama from creator Chris Fedak, Deception stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as illusionist Cameron Black, with Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones. With big shows in Vegas and New York, Cameron is rocketing to the top, when scandal derails his show and his twin’s life. While watching the news, he realizes that the FBI has been deceived by an illusionist, and whoever it was, stole one of his signature moves. Now, this magician is using his tradecraft to help the Feds apprehend some of the most elusive criminals in the world and hopes to prove his brother, Jonathan (Cutmore-Scott), is an innocent man.
Debuting on March 11th, Deception got off to a decent start with 1.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.93 million viewers. The show’s premiere ratings were likely helped by the fact that the first episode aired after the ABC debut of American Idol (which drew a much bigger audience).
Week two saw the ratings drop by more than 32% and the numbers kept dwindling downward as the season progressed. Last week’s episode attracted a 0.60 in the demo with 3.18 million.
With ratings like these. it was no surprise that ABC decided not to order a second season. Unfortunately, filming had already been completed before that decision came down so the writers didn’t have time to wrap things up.
Though the show’s ratings were low, Deception clearly has some devoted fans who wanted the show to continue.
What do you think? Did you like the Deception TV show? Would you have watched season two? Do you think that this show could have been a hit or, was it not made for a broad audience?
Please we need season 2 of deception. It is a great show and i cant understand why hell the cancelled it. I think people these days cant differentiate between good and bad. I make a strong appeal to bring deception back.
Please come out with Season 2 .Its really a good show.
I really wish they would stop cancelling the good tv shows!!! Deception was one of the best ones out there! I feel nowadays if it doesn’t have nudity, vulgar language, and tons of sex whether it be gay or straight couples you feel it’s not worth keeping on!!! I for one would rather watch half descent programming then the vulgarity you would rather show!!
We just realized the show was cancelled! Please, please pick up this show – we really want to see the rest of the story!
I’m hoping Netflix will pick this up. PLEASE!!!
Loved it! Was fun and interesting. I will miss it.
I WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WATCHED IT! I LOVE DECEPTION!!!! CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S BEEN CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!! 🙁
I enjoyed the main character and the plots, but in my opinion, the chemistry between the main character and the detective seemed a bit “forced”. CBS, NBC, and CBS need to get it together. Other than just a handful of shows, none can compete with the quality of Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and AMC (Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul specifically) standards. Better acting, better directors, better writers….
I hope another network picks up Deception.
I LOVED THIS SHOW. GOOD PLOT, GOOD ENSEMBLE. REAL CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE MAIN ACTORS. I HOPE IT CAN CONTINUE IN SOME FORM
How come every show I like, gets cancelled !?! I’m getting a complex! Why don’t they change their time slots first! Sorry to all the actors, you truly did a great job! I wish you would pool all of your Money to start your own station! You could call the underdogs station!
The show I like also gets cancelled every time. Recently I watched Zoo on netflix and when I reached the last season end I just searched on web and got my answer it was cancelled. So many good shows without proper endings. For this show also I knew it will be cancelled and it did.
I so enjoyed this show! It was one of the few shows that I watched with my 15 year old. To be able to watch a decent/innocent show with a teen is important! It was good quality time together. Just sad……..
What’s the deal, The Brave, Then Lucifer, Then Deception Come on all the good shows get the AX,
I’M ABOUT TO CANCEL MY TELEVISION SERVICE ALTOGETHER NETWORKS DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE PAYING FOR THE SERVICE THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE TWEENS THE ONES WHO DON’T PAY THE BILLS.
You’re not paying them anything because they aren’t cable networks. And your show is cancelled because not many people (as in ADULTS aged 18-49) are watching. Too bad.
DECEPTION WAS A FRESH NEW IDEA THAT DEFINITELY WAS CANCELLED WAY TOO SOON.JUST BECAUSE IT WAS DIFFERENT THE CHANNEL PULLED IT, AN THEY’LL TURN AROUND AN REPLACE IT WITH GARBAGE.
