Tonight marks the end of ABC’s Deception TV show. The alphabet network decided to cancel the Sunday night drama series after just one season of 13 episodes. Why was it cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?
An ABC crime drama from creator Chris Fedak, Deception stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as illusionist Cameron Black, with Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones. With big shows in Vegas and New York, Cameron is rocketing to the top, when scandal derails his show and his twin’s life. While watching the news, he realizes that the FBI has been deceived by an illusionist, and whoever it was, stole one of his signature moves. Now, this magician is using his tradecraft to help the Feds apprehend some of the most elusive criminals in the world and hopes to prove his brother, Jonathan (Cutmore-Scott), is an innocent man.
Debuting on March 11th, Deception got off to a decent start with 1.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.93 million viewers. The show’s premiere ratings were likely helped by the fact that the first episode aired after the ABC debut of American Idol (which drew a much bigger audience).
Week two saw the ratings drop by more than 32% and the numbers kept dwindling downward as the season progressed. Last week’s episode attracted a 0.60 in the demo with 3.18 million.
With ratings like these. it was no surprise that ABC decided not to order a second season. Unfortunately, filming had already been completed before that decision came down so the writers didn’t have time to wrap things up.
Though the show’s ratings were low, Deception clearly has some devoted fans who wanted the show to continue.
What do you think? Did you like the Deception TV show? Would you have watched season two? Do you think that this show could have been a hit or, was it not made for a broad audience?
Please bring back Deception. It’s a great show. Love the cast.
it had low ratings?! why?! the show was great! of course the two of the most original, cool crime shows were cancelled (Deception and Lucifer)… ppl have no ******’ taste…! Lucifer lasted longer at least, but they cancelled it after it started getting good, which is retarded on FOX’s part. they cancel excellent, original shows, but keep the overall mediocre, cliche ones (and some good ones of course). TV is being overrun by reality shows (shows that follow ppl’s lives, competitions and game shows), drama sitcoms and comedy shows. i dont hate these genres of shows, i watch a few… Read more »
BRING IT BACK- My goodness this is such a clever adventurous show. Why is it not better advertised? Stop confining us to endless reality drivel!!! I am so frustrated with programming. Someone pick it up and run with it.
AMEN, JILL!!!! Apparently there are more people who enjoy living vicariously in the lives of idiotic reality shows. Clever is not in their vocabulary. So sad this show must go without a farewell episode.
Please bring back Deception. It is THE BEST. You leave us wanting more. Totally not fair. This show is amazing.
I loved Deception. It was totally different from all the other detective show. So disappointed it was cancelled!
You know I have to say I loved this show best new show out there actually found out it was cancelled by looking for season 2 air date deception was something new exciting and kept you on your toes and in a way taught you something allot of these new shows have the same theme to them just different name deception was definitely different but when TV networks say they care about their viewers again here they are to show it’s about the ratings not those 3 million people who were still watching the show
I enjoyed watching and it is a shame it has been cancelled. The cast is good and the stories interesting and something different. I think some other network should pick it up.
I loved Deception and was really sad to see it go because of how it ended.
Extremely disappointed in ABC. GREAT SHOW!!
It was the best new show out there the idea was excellent and the cast was awesome whoever put the crew together did a great job I’m very sad and disappointed that it was canceled the good shows always get canceled shame on the network
When a show gets picked up I always believe they should film a FINAL EPISODE as a “just in case” measure because it always leaves wondering Why this happened? Where was it going? Is there a reason for that?
I am very ddisappointed- I think it was fresh and different. Mr Cutmore-Scott is fabulous. Hopefully another network will pick it up
YES I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! GREAT SHOW
Deception was outstanding–must see TV for me. Tricky plots, lots of suspense, good characters but devoid of nasty attitude & gratuitous carnage. Not much left worth watching.
Very disappointing. I really enjoyed this show.
