On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

My husband and I LOVE this show! It’s one of the few new shows that are actually good. Please do not cancel it! I was never a Michael Imperioli fan, until 187. I find this show extremely entertaining! Leave it be. Thanks!!!
This is very good.good show This show should stay on
Please do no cancel great chemistry with all of. The cast
Thank you.Lew.
I don’t want to see this show end. It’s one of the only things I watch on television these days.
WHY WOULD YOU CANCEL THE SHOW….IT IS THE GREATEST SHOW ON ABC ….
We really enjoy Detroit 1-8-7
I wondered what happened to this exciting show
People just don’t know about it
It wasn’t advertised like other shows
For instance. The Defenders was advertised at least 6 weeks before it was on and it seemed on every day . We like the Defenders…lately it is a little stupid.
I loved the characters on Detroit 187
Will it be brought back with more advertising?

Why is it when you get a REALLY GOOD show you think you have to cancel it or put one more dumb reality show on, don,t you think there are enough of those already???? This is the best crime drama of all the series that you have to offer. Please don’t cancel this so good show. KAREN
Detroit 187 is the best drama on TV right now. Great Character developmet, Story lines and wonderfully acted- so by those standards it will probably be cancelled. I haven’t missed an episode and that is without any promos at all. The show speaks for itself. Too bad the network never supported it and instead pushed the likes of that gastly Bachelor.
Detroit could be 2011’s NYPD Blue.
I think this is the best police drama on TV.
Leave it on! “Detroit 1-8-7” is the first program on broadcast television in years, that I’ve made a point of watching. This is good show, that keeps getting better. It would be nice, and maybe smart if CBS would pick up the show. Since CBS is the most-watched network, maybe it would have more of a chance of finding an audience there. CBS does well with crime dramas, and this show would be a hip, young addition to the lineup.
I totally agree with your comments. I love Detroit 1-8-7! Keep the show & don’t cancel it.
Great show, good characters and down to earth-this is what “reality” TV should be, MJ
Good writing. Superb acting. Characters who truly apprecite and enjoy each other’s efforts to solve the crimes. Refreshing because there is a limit to that awful, sassy back talk which is often depicted on other shows.
Detroit 1-8-7 is great. I love the reality tv documentary type filming with the fictional characters. It is just as good as N.Y.P.D. I would hate for it to be canceled over mindless tv shows.
I totally agree it would be a mistake for that to happen. Michael Imperillo is outstanding. The other cast members are good as well. The scripts are also good. I have never see a promo for the show. I’ve never understood that. I certainly hope they will continue with they show so that it will develop a strong viewer base. Great show, keep it going!!!
I watched this program for the first time last night, and I really enjoyed it I hope that it doesn’t get canceled. I agree with the above comment, there are far to many reality TV programs it just sickning to watch. I love a show with some depth to it and this reminds of the police shows of old times.
This show is so great. Terrific acting, great plots, and writing. I sure hope it doesn’t get canceled. Only thing I watch on Tuesday.
This show is really to good for regular tv that’s why they are axing it. Hey, they know that the majority of tv watchers would rather watch Dancing with the Stars, Donald Trump’s apprentice, desperate housewives, 2 and 1/2 men, lets see oh yeah , the numerous reality shows. We, who love good tv, would like it if you stuck by us once in a while. Let a show have a chance instead of axing good shows before they can built a viewing base.
