On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

I love Detroit 1-8-7, keep it!!!!!!!
I think Detroit 1-8-7 is one of the best shows on tv…it would be a very big mistake to cancel it now…especially since it’s just getting started…the character’s are just starting to really come to life… it should stay on…
We certainly hope Detroit 187 is not cancelled. Would be a real mistake. It is a well performed police show with out all the forensic stuff. Good basic cop work, good stories, good acting by persons we enjoy watching.
This show is fantastic and it would be a shame if it were cancelled. Just goes to show you how stupid TV and some viewers have become when a show like Jersey Shore makes more than D1-8-7. The dumbing down of America at it’s worst.
I thing the show Detroit is a very good show my husband and I enjoy it very much I hate those reality shows. I was disappointed when last week show wasn’t on you get good shows on then mess it up we can’t figure out what your thinking is.
Last episode ended with a cliffhanger. Wouldn’t it be great if they never aired any other episodes. Genius!!
The show is very good as it is Well executed. The actors are all great. I think you need to let the entire season play out as the writing is starting to really develop as are the characters.
I LIKE DETROIT 187! BRING IT BACK! I DID NOT REALIZE IT IS OFF THE AIR UNTIL FEBRUARY. GIVE THIS SHOW A CHANCE!
Detroit 187 is a very well balanced show that is very humane in its treatment of police officers. It should continue…
Detroit 187 is about the only good show on ABC. I would really hate to see them drop it there is so little quality TV left it would be a great loss.
I agree with darlene. ABC finally has a good crime show and their talking about cancelling it. I don’t make any plans for Tuesday evenings because we are in the central time zone and don’t want to miss the show.
Please do not replace Detorit 1-8-7 because if you do I will find another station to view.
Detroit 1-8-7 is one of the best shows to come along in who knows how long!! Leave it alone and give it time to grow more audience!!
i LIKE IT. i HOPE THEY KEEP THE SHOW ON, IT ALWAYS HAS A GOOD PLOT.TAKE CHASE OFF IT STINKS!@!!
Detroit 1-8-7 is a good cop show, and I’ve been following it since it started. It’s well-written and well-acted, and I’ve been fascinated with the Detroit setting. I hope they don’t cancel it, because it’s one of the best that ABC has. It’s the only one I watch, and no one needs more “reality” TV.
Melissa, I signed your petition!
Really like Detroit, a great cop show that bears a strong resemblanceto the amazing NYPD! Personally I have really come to appreciate a good, down to earth believable show, especially in the cop genre. All of the CSI type show are getting to be boring, and trying to stay interesting storylines are more and more bizzare! Great writing and acting seldom seen on tv these days. What a shame.
