On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

This is a very good show- well cast, interesting stories, well written- we like the characters. Good as any, better than some. What will we do when all the good ones are replaced with those dumb “reality shows”?
What is wrong with this network; first it was “The Whole Truth” and Now my favorite “Detroit 187…. Come on people… Where are you getting these ratings from?
This is a great show and should not be cancelled. Michael Imperioli has done an excellent job. Move it to a different time slot or night. All the other crap on tv, this is an A+ show!
This is one on the finest programs on TV. Hopefully they will keep it on the air, and renew for next year. It is nice to see TV that is not just mindless crap.
Unfortunately, it looks like Detroit 187 is done. The seasons final epidode wrapped up Sunday, March 20, far earlier than one would expect, and it wrapped up too well, answering all questions that were being wondered about too easily, tied with a bow. I appreciate ABC doing this, but it just makes it even more clear that there will be no more. Too bad. Quality show.
As a Criminal Justice student and a great fan of cops show this is the best show i ever seen it’s pretty life . Please don’t cancel it or just put it the 8’o clock time slot.
i cannot believe they are going to cancel this show, love the show, characters, stories, etc., the acting is great. try putting it on another nite tuesday, too many good shows on, why do they get rid of good shows and keep the likes of jersey shore. disgraceful also think the show is good for the detroit area, even though i am canadian. i love the show.
This is one of the best shows on prime time TV. Please DO NOT cancel it. Try it on a different time slot.
Do not cancel this show. I think there was a problem with the same time slot as CBS The Good Wife. Therefore you should shift it to a different night or time. This show is certainly worth saving!!!!
This is a sensational show – interesting – intelligent and touching. Enough of the reality shows! Give us grown up programming such as Detroit 187!
This is the only show that my husband and I watch together. It is a great show. Please bring it back.
This drama is the best since Homicide Life on the streets, and NYPD Blue,,,two shows that I would not miss, even stay home to watch them…I have a PVR but watch it at its regular time as I cannot wait to see the show…think again about cancellation…there are some shows that need extra time to catch on, it quirky, its funny, and most of all very entertaining, not some dumb sit com….
We like this show. We like the characters and their interaction. Actually look forward to the show each week. Please don’t cancel there is so little on tv to watch.
Don’t cancel this how!! The story line is great and reminds me of The Wire. Keep this show going. People: Make your views known and keep Detroit 187 on the air.
Please don’t cancel! It is a great show, with interesting story lines. I know the frustrating part has been the inconsistence of when it is on between all the other special programming. I love the fact that the actors are new and different, very diverse and fantastic. It is the only show we have been dedicated in watching…
