On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

one of the better cop show.
should not be canceled
Love Detroit 187, it’s a great show…Do Not cancel
Please don’t cancel this show. You take them away too quickly. Give things at least two seasons to see if they pick up. This is a great show, with a great cast. The characters and friendships are just getting interesting. Please don’t cancel.
Keep the show on the air. It’s a great drama.
KEEP DETRIOT 187-IT IS AN ADULT DRAMA AND A GOOD CHANGE FROM REALITY TV!
Love Detroit 187. Good family of actors. Better than many other shows. Only network show I will watch,
Please don’t cancel this show!! Michael Imperioli does quality work. ABC canceled his last show on their network, Life On Mars, far to soon. Give this show a better time slot and do more advertising like you do for Dancing with the Stars (ugh).
This is a great show. So great that it definitely should not be taken off the air for another boring “reality” show. My wife and I both look forward to tuesday nights.
The characters are just starting to develop and the writing is top notch. It would be a damn shame if ABC takes it off the air.
Detroit 187 is one of our top five shows on TV. We watch it all the time “on demand” because unfortunately it is on opposie two of our other top five shows–Parenthood and The Good Wife.
KEEP THE SHOW and give it another time slot. The cast really clicks in this series.
Les and Janet Weber
This is a really good show. Southland was also a great show that had to go to cable because the network did not want to support it. Low ratings after being pre-empted, moved and then shut down before all shows were even played. How can shows develop a following with treatment like that. Why don’t the stations just pull all of the shows and replace them with reality, boring crap. There are still some people, apparently less and less, that actually enjoy shows with plot lines and good acting. Maybe we few could just have our own little network?? I… Read more »
excellant show
dont cancel
I for one hope ABC brings it back. The show was starting to gain some strength and the storyline was coming together. Detroit needs everything it can get.
DON’T CANCEL
This is too good a show to not continue. It has everything going for it. Casting, dialogue, good plots and scripts- we’re interested in the characters. Isn’t that what makes a good show? Is this going to be replaced by another REALLY STUPID REALITY SHOW?
Love the people, Michael Imperioli, his son ( in the last two shows) the guy I always call “Boss” (James McDaniels). I want to know who will be the new partner- we like the friendship between the Characters.
Please don’t cancel this t v series. My husband and I really enjoy the series and the actors are the best. Every week we look forward to watching Detroit 187, Thank you.
