On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Please do not cancel. This is one of the best new shows we have seen lately.
We finally get a good entertaining show to watch and they take it off the air, while leaving on programs tha are a total waste of electricity. Go figgure.

Keep this show, damnit … Law and Order just had their first officer killed in almost 20 year! Detroit 1 8 7 did it in their first season!!! Not a reason to keep the show on, I’m just saying. Also, how many shows will the guy from the Sopranos be involved in on ABC before he has one that’s a hit?
Detroit 187 is fantastic.
I called ABC-TV in New York to complain when it was pre-empted by lesser viewing.
The writing, the actors, the story lines are so well thought out and portrayed. It’s the show I most look forward to but now cannot find it. Let us see the six shows already shot .
Please.

I agree with all the above comments. This is one of the best shows on TV. It was put in an untenable time slot. Give a new night and lots of publicity and you will see the ratings rise. Can’t think of a show I have enjoyed more since Hill Street Blues…and…it’s time Detroit received some favorable exposure. Tired of Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago getting all the show settings.
I cant believe that this show wont be back. It is the best show on television and the actors are stand outs. I pray it comes back
This is amongst the best of cop shows. In the same venu of Hill St. Blues and NYPD Blue. Keep it going!
Hi We went to Florida and was not able to find Detroit 187 on the TV there and figured it was not shown there. When we came home I checked and could not find it listed. I was able to figure out that is is being canceled. I was great disappointed. Please re-instate it or what ever it is called. I grew up in the Harper and Van Dyke area and was proud that they was a TV program about Detroit’s finest. Thank You DIXIE
This is a GREAT show! It is primarity the COMPETITION at 10p.m. Tuesday that is the reason it has had lower than hoped-for ratings. The Good Wife, also at that day/time is one of the most popular shows on television, and Parenthood is also popular. ABC, PLEASE try the EXCELLENT Detroit 187 at another day/time, and DO NOT CANCEL it!
I can’t believe they’re even considering cancelling a show that’s the best thing on T.V. since Columbo and Matlock. The show’s gritty content and believablity are the best I’ve seen in years. It’s like watching a mini movie every week. When will networks ever learn that there are people who still love old-school crime shows!
LOVE the show!!!! RATINGS LOW MAYBE CAUSE OF COMPETITION AT THAT TIME!!!! CHANGE TIME IF NEEDED, BUT DON’T CANCEL SHOW………..PROMOTE THE SHOW!!! IT’S A WINNER!!!!
Please don’t cancel this show!!!!
