On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Best crime drama out there–how can you even TALK of canceling? The characters are just really getting developed. Market this more if that’s the problem!!!
it was my favorite show.whats wrong with you people.sicki of looking at stupid reality shows sit cops soap opras snukie and those dumbass sitcoms like 2halh men..these other shows on tv now makes me watch nat geographic animal planet msnbc and evencartoons as long as there not a bunch of stupid un believable things that normal kids should see.how about a good tom and jerry cartoon like the old days
That would be a shame and a mistake for ABC. Detroit 187 is one of the best cop shows I’ve seen. I would sorely miss it. Maybe ABC only wants me to look at their station on monday nights at 10 p.m. Cause that’s about all they’ll have.
This is one of the few great shows on the air. I have been so disappointed that it is not on anymore.
Detroit 187 is the best show. I’ve enjoyed every episode even following with the pre emptions of other specials. Detroit 187 reminds me of the old series Hill Street Blues–fun, gritty, and emotional. Please ABC, renew it.
Detroit 187 is hands down the best cop show to come along in years. Speaking of hands…if Natalie Martinez ever needs an ass rub…well…um, just saying…
please keep this show on. there is so much “reality” crap on tv right now. detroit 187 provides topnotch entertainment…great writing, great acting…truly love michael imperioli and his son! do not cancel…abc should show support for this show…many shows were not hits when they first started, i.e., “seinfeld”, for one. stick with it for once!! “friday night lights” had the same issue – maybe direct tv 101 should step in for detroit 187 as well.
If ABC makes an awful decision, I wonder if one of the cable channels might pick it up. I urge everyone to write to TNT and USA.
Great show with awsome actors. Please don’t cancel. Give Detriot 187 a chance.
Detroit 187 was a fine detective show. One of the best around. Maybe they should think about changing the night it is on, that is so key to a new show.
Detroit 1-8-7 is probably one of the best crime shows on TV. It does take a bit to really appreciate the show but to cancel it will be a crime!!
I was so disappointed to hear that this amazing show was not going to be continued. It’s the best police drama since Homicide Life on the Streets.
this is most definitely one of the better shows to come along in a long time.
reminiscent of the days when watching primetime tv was enjoyable.
enough with the reality tv shows.
Please dont take Detroit 187 off the air. We are a group of 18 individuals that get together every week to watch the show. It is deserving of continuing. Give it a chance, the show is AWESOME!
Possibly the best crime drama on TV that no one knows about. Make those high-priced marketing guys earn their money — get the word out.
