On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

This is an excellent show. I went on ABC’s website and emailed them asking them to keep the show. I urge others to do the same. Inundate them and maybe they will come to their senses
This was one of the best shows I have seen on network television in a long time. Great scripts, great actors. Seeing Detriot was a refreshing change also. I so hope it will come back but without the hottie who died it won’t be as entertaining.
This show has steadily gotten better with each new episode. Much more believable than the Chicago Super Cop show. Bring it back.
this is a great show.. please don’t cancel it…
My husband and I are very disappointed to hear that detroit 187 may not return. We found it to be one of the better shows on tv. Please do all you can to bring it back.
Sorry that Detroit 187 has gone off the air. It was new and inspiring.
For goodness sake, get rid of this ridiculous show! It’s so unbelieveable that it is almost a comedy. Most of the scripts, and scenes filmed in Detroit, are not at all complimentary to the city. Also, the case closure rate in this fictional Detroit Police Department are not even close to any sense of reality which actually has one of the lowest successful closure rates in the entire country. They routinely close case simply because they can’t solve them, to make it look that they have solved them.
I have never written in to talk about a TV show before but here goes: Detroit 187 is one of the finer shows available this year and I do hope the powers that be will realize that some shows are just slow starters…….Please give it another shot and I am sure it will get better reviews…..
Please do not cancel Detroit 187. It’s one of the few ABC shows worth watching.
Bring it back, good TV. Reminds me of Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blues
This is one of the best shows on tv. It would be a big mistake to cancel this show.
I don’t care! I’m in oz and they haven’t even showed it yet just ads for it. I can say for sure i won’t watch. Why? Because I am an intelligent person who wants a hell of lot more from a cop/ crime show than “hey i’m thirsty I want a drink” — throw suspect a drink — suspect catches in left hand — “he’s not the killer he’s left handed” omfg really?! The can was thrown from the left and oh wait anyone ever played baseball/ softball which hand do you f’ing catch with? Seriously that is what detective… Read more »
Please save this show. I love it…….so does my husband!
I was mad as hell when I heard Detriot 187 maybe canceled. I, too, am tired of reality shows & DWTS. I love gritty cops shows. Maybr If ABC cancels ,TNT will save it like they did Southland.
One of the better shows on this season. Iam sick of dancing stars ,drunk and druged so called stars and reality shows. Keep this show going for the adults out there.
I like the show very much its not often my wife and me agree I gess I will have to find something else to watch on another channel to watch!!!
