On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

I loved this show, it was way better than Body of Proof. I don’t like the actress Dana Delaney, she’s way too arrogant and its repitious of the other CSI shows which have better actors. Please reconsider and put Detroit 187 back on.
If you have to cancel the show (for which I disagree),could you at least air the six episodes not shown!!!!!!!!! Great show–it really grows on you. I like “Body of Proof,” but I like Detroit 1-8-7 even better.
So much action coupled with just enough personal elements of the team.
You made a mistake!
I enjoyed this show. Its characters were strong, the story line was interesting and being filmed in Detroit was a plus. I do not think that this show was promoted which is needed in today’s market.
Please keep this show on and allow it to develop a following.
I DO NOT GET THE WHOLE REALITY TV THING. LEAVE DETROIT 187 ON!!!!!! PLEASE LEAVE SOMETHING TO WATCH.
Please keep this show on the air. It is wonderful and great acting. We need more shows like this one. There is absolutely no reason this show should be cancelled.
Please don’t cancel this show. I love the characters and want to see more of them. I only care about 2 shows “Detroit 187 ” and “Southland”. I won’t watch any reality shows. I can talk to my neighbors for reality. Hawaii 50 is good and BlueBloods has a great cast but I’m not faithful to it. I adore this Detroit 187 and I like the seeing the father and son getting back together, plus the romance between the 2 officiers. Don’t cancel Detroit 187.
WE LOVE THIS SHO. GREAT CHARACTERS AND WE WERE JUST REALLY GETTING TO KNOW THE CAST. I WONDER WHY ANYONE EVEN TRIES TO GET INTO A SERIES ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY JANK THEM OFF AIR BEFORE THE VIEWERS HAVE A CHANCE TO GET INVESTED IN THE SHOW. WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO REPLACE IT WITH—A STUPID REALITY SHOW ,GAME SHOW OR ANOTHER MINDLESS TALK SHOW!!!
Do not cancel this show, it meant a lot to us in Michigan. Most shows either take place on the west or east coast, very few in the midwest. Keep Detroit 187 alive.
I agree 100% Very good show and well thought out! I love learning a little about the detectives in the show—it’s done little by little. It adds to the mystery of the crimes and the personal lives of the detectives trying to solve them.
Mistake to cancel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Solid show with strong ensemble cast. Before the suits panic they would do well to recall that NYPD Blue has a tenuous first year and then surged in the ratings.
Please bring back the show, just loved it looked forward to Tuesday night
Detroit 187 is an absolutely a great show, one of the very best I have ever seen, it has a great story line, wonderful actors, and is true to life. Take this from a retired police officer!!!!
I love that show. It has strong characters.
What a shame. I really like Detroit 187. I thought is was original, good story line, good acting. Better than any reality TV out there. It’s a shame all the good shows never make it as TV caters to Gen XYand Z’ers. Trust me the 35’s-65’s still spend our share of money, and there are more of us.
There is a lot of CRUMMY shows on TV now…. like The Good Wife….THE CRY BABY SHOW…..NCIS…… THE GUY WITH A STUPID BAD HAIR STYLE….NCIS LA …..THE OLD LADY WITH A RETARDED HAIR STYLE LOOKS LIKE IT’S FROM SPECIAL ED
I don’t like to watch these stupid type of shows….DETROIT 187 IS BETTER….MORE ACTION, REALISTIC, SUSPENSE ….I LIKE A SHOW MADE IN THE CITY OF DETROIT INSTEAD OF LA, NY CITY……PLEASE ABC DON’T CANCEL THIS AWESOME DETROIT 187 MOVE IT TO…. SUNDAYS, MONDAYS OR THURSDAY 9 OR 10pm…..PLEASE GIVE A CHANCE.
