On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Detroit 187 …is a very good show….It has great actors doing wonderful work with scripts that only get better with each episode.. ABC should give it the chance to grow if
ABC wants to have quality programing and entertainment that’s intelligent and adult.

Every year we get great shows and really like them. There is nothing out there anymore worth watching with exceptions of very few. Hate these ridiculous reality shows and waste of time comedies. Please, please don’t cancel this show. Give it time. Great actors. Great story lines. I love it. These networks are so impatient!!!!
Doesn’t the fact that more people watch the “reality” shows than the scripted shows tell us something? Think of the intellectual level of those people…not very high. And…they apparently also watch the commercials…so the advertisers think they are selling their products via that show. I’m reminded, again, t’s all about the money…again.
Detroit 1 87 why would you guys cancel a really good tv show ?
Just when you start to enjoy a show it’s cancelled. I hope they air remaining episodes. Guess I’ll go back to watching strictly HBO & Showtime.
please do not cancel Detroit 1 8 7. It is a great show and should be given a chance.
I am very disappointed that Detroit 1 8 7 has been discontinued. It had become one of my can’t miss shows
It takes a TV series like Detroit 187 time to develop. There are character studies to be fleshed out. This is a good show and is just now getting better. Please, give it a chance! This show beats the hell out of half the crap ABC aires.
cancel it — very bad acting— poor writing– It is boring.
Why would you cancel a show right when it was getting so good..I agree with everyone who’s tired of having nothing to watch but those crappy reality shows. Can we please get and keep shows with people that actually care about their profession(acting) and not that junk….over glamorized reality tv…
What a great show….Look forward to it every week
I love the show i am tired of networks cancelling good shows and puting crap like all those reality shows that people do not have any tallant to be on tv and they charge so much for cable and i have to watch that crap
We’ve seen all of the episodes and it’s one of only two shows we watch (the other being “Blue Bloods”). We LOVE “Detroit 1-8-7!
I love Detroit 1-8-7! Why does ABC cancel all of the great show, ie Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, The Whole Truth, Ugly Betty, etc… I am a loyal ABC viewer, and I watch a lot of TV. Please, ABC, give D187 another year!!! Cheers didn’t start out as a gangbuster, but NBC hung in there and created tv history. D187 is only getting better and better with more in depth character development. I love Fitch!
I enjoy shows that have been canceled: Law & Order and Numbers. Great actors and great writing. So why can’t Detroit 187 continue?
