ABC has decided to run the season (likely series) finale of Detroit 1-8-7 this Sunday, March 20th, at 10pm. The freshman drama is airing on a special night because it was pre-empted by a 20/20 special featuring an interview with Charlie Sheen a couple weeks ago.
Detroit 1-8-7 is, of course, highly unlikely to return for season two. The TV series’ ratings have been terrible and just about anything else the network has put on in its place has performed better. It’s currently averaging a very disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.64 million viewers. That makes Detroit 1-8-7 the lowest-rated scripted series still on the network. Tuesday’s installment registered just a 1.2 in the demo.
Here’s the finale description from ABC:
SEASON FINALE
FITCH FACES OFF AGAINST HIS RUTHLESS NEW YORK ADVERSARY, ALBERT STRAM, WHILE HIS LIFE, THAT OF HIS SON AND THE REST OF THE SQUAD HANG IN THE BALANCE, ON THE SEASON FINALE OF ABC’S “DETROIT 1-8-7” Michael Imperioli’s Real Life Son, Vadim, Continues in His Guest Starring Role as Fitch’s Son, Bobby
“Blackout” – Fitch’s past comes back to haunt him when his old New York nemesis, Albert Stram, makes his presence known in Detroit just as the veteran detective is enjoying spending time with his son, Bobby. Stram’s not so subtle threats shake the usually unflappable Fitch. Meanwhile, the other detectives are called to the scene of a horrific homicide to find an entire family brutally murdered. Fitch tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together and it leads him to a devastating conclusion. With his back against the wall, Fitch asks Washington to protect Bobby, then leads Longford and Mahajan on an extremely dangerous mission to trap Stram; but which side of the law will he come down on in order to save his family and those in the squad? Meanwhile, Longford has second thoughts about his retirement; but is it too late? It’s a crucial turning point in the lives of all the detectives, on the Season Finale of “Detroit 1-8-7,” SUNDAY, MARCH 20 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Please keep this on the air. Loved the characters and the way they interacted.
I love Detroit 187, I thought it was a great show and has a wonderful cast. If it does not come back for a second season I will be dissapoonted.
I want my Detroit 187! I cannot believe we may be losing this amazing show! I have not loved a show like this is yrs. Hands down the best tv show out there!!!!!!! ABC, your audience craves another season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great show. The cast and writing both wonderful. Terrible news that it will be cancelled. Certainly a better show than Blueblood. Looked forward to every episodes. Will really miss this one. So much TV just plain sucks and then something decent comes along and nobody watches. Go figure.
Detroit 187 is about an American tragedy that no one wants to face. As a tv show it is a success in every way but the loss of the once great city of Detroit is much too honestly portrayed and displayed in each episode. People don’t want to watch almost a reality show of our own failures in a city that looks more like a war zone than a city. More people have died from crime on the streets of Detroit since 911 than any war this country has been involved in during that same time period. Over 1 million… Read more »

I love this show, the acting is superb and the storyline and characters are so engaging. I hope they bring it back and start promoting it more. Its an excellent show.
I’m really disapointed that Detroit 187 is going to be cancelled. With some of the trash that the networks put on, this program was a pleasure to watch. I would probably go out on a limb and say $$$$ on advertisement or lack of $$$$ coming in decided the shows fate.
This is the best show(along with Southland) on TV! Characters were developed beautifully. Who wants to watch all this boring reality garbage. Keep this show on!!!!!!
This is a great show, we look forward to it weekly. Too intelligenct for the masses watching Housewives of Expensive neighborhood and all other reality shows.
This is a great show. I think the title, maybe, and the hype of it being set in Detroit may have hurt the show. If you watch it, it actually makes it more interesting, but it may have put people off. If the network holds on and airs the reruns consecutively for summer, it may find its audience. Better marketing and more time would probably move this show to the must-see status. I really looked forward each week to the episodes. The cast is terrific.
With all the crap on tv….we grownups love this gritty series..cast was just starting to go deep and many layered. too bad people need 5 second bang and blood or they lose interest. Why…why
Reality TV stinks. My life is tough enough, I don’t want to see scripted “reality”. I don’t want to see anyone else eat bugs! I’m not into dancing and bad singing. Give me good fiction. This show was smart enough to add a little humor in the hard lives of the officers of Detroit. The writers did a great job. I will miss this one.
I think the show is excellent and agree with Peggy. I am at a loss for what IS a good show if this doesn’t qualify.
Detroit 187 is not a failure: it’s an intelligently drawn & acted drama, minus gratuitous gore & hyped CSI-type shock-schlock.
Michael Imperioli & the entire cast portrays characters who ask us to think for ourselves…..guess that’s too much to ask.
Shame on abc for succombing to the lowest common denominators of “successful” shows.
