ABC’s had mixed success with their new shows this year, but what about Downward Dog? The TV show just premiered in May and we want to know if you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Based on the web series of the same name, the comedy follows the day-to-day life of Nan (Allison Tolman), as told by her increasingly lonely and philosophical dog, Martin (voiced by Samm Hodges). The cast also includes Lucas Neff, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Barry Rothbart, Siovhan Christensen, Ayden Mayeri, and Andrew Gorell.
Downward Dog has brought in pretty poor ratings for ABC so far. Currently, the sitcom is earning an average rating of 0.87 in the 18-49 demo and 4.40 million viewers. The network held the comedy until very late in the season and produced just eight episodes — likely signs that ABC doesn’t have a lot of faith in the show.
However, even with falling ratings, does Downward Dog deserve a second chance in your book? What do you think? Should ABC renew this canine comedy or cancel it?
6/24 update: ABC has cancelled the Downward Dog TV show after one season. Details here.

It was a great show and to replace it with that stupid Gong Show is ridiculous. Downward Dog was different and entertaining ..I too hope another channel picks it up
I loved this show and everybody I recommended it to loved it.
I was heartbroken to read ABC cancelled Downward Dog. It’s a refreshing, entertaining show that should be given a second chance. The network’s manage to keep “crap” on the air and cancel decent shows like this one. I loved Martin and the person who voiced his thoughts and feelings.
i dot understand how a bunch of rebooted games can be better than a quality, well cast, heartwarming program. it was the little bit of time of peace i had watching it weekly.
do not understand how a series of rebooted game show can possibly be better than a quality, well cast. and heartwarming show. i am so sad.
I agree. Who wants to see the old game shows. Downward Dog is soooo cute!! I love Martin and the guy who does his voice. Bring it back!!
This show is excellent – entertaining and with a message. Why would a show this good be cancelled? Looked forward to watching a real show that is not a dance show, reality or who has the best product. Please rethink you your decision. KEEP DOWNWARD DOG, please.
Absolutely heartbroken over this cancellation. DAMN you ABC…they didn’t even give it a chance. I hope another network picks it up.
This was a sweet intelligent show that was suitable for the whole family. Another great decision, ABC.
Yes love the shoe
Yes it does!!! loved every episode of this show, and I think other fellow dog/animal lovers would also love it!!! The timing of the show’s launch was really strange.
Yes, yes, yes!!! I love Martin! I made all my friends watch all the On Demand episodes so we are ready for Season TWO! Please!
love this show. yes I would watch another season.
I am from Pgh and had heard about this show months before it aired and anxiously anticipated the first episode. From the beginning, I absolutely loved it. It has so many touching, meaningful parts and great writing. Finally a good show comes on and ABC says they can’t afford it? Come on, I’m sure they will find room for yet another stupid, reality show though. I was totally shocked to hear they cancelled it. They didn’t give it a chance. I hope another network is smart enough to pick this up. It is a winner. I miss Martin and Nan.
One of the better shows on TV. Anyone who has owned a dog can relate to Martin and his interactions with people and of course his cat “neighbor”. They don’t give this a real season, but shows like the Middle that have run their course are still on.
I love this show…don’t want it to end. Martin’s voice suits him perfectly, and what great writers. Funny, touching show.
