The Eyewitness TV show on USA Network has been cancelled after just one season of 10 episodes. The drama begins with teen boys — Philip Shea (Tyler Young) and Lukas Waldenbeck (James Paxton). When they meet up in a forest cabin to share their first kiss, they witness a shooting and barely escape with their lives. The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Gil Bellows, Warren Christie, and Tattiawna Jones.
An adaptation of the Norwegian crime thriller called Øyevitne, Eyewitness explores a grisly crime from the point of view of the eyewitnesses. Amanda Brugel, Aidan Devine, Rainbow Sun Francks, Matt Murray, Katie Douglas, Mercedes Morris, Carlyn Burchell, Alex Karzis, and Adrian Fritsch recur. Deadline reports there will be no second season on USA.
Eyewitness Cancelled on USA Network: A Look at the Ratings
The first and only season of Eyewitness averaged a 0.17 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 639,000 viewers. Out of the nine new, scripted USA Network TV series we’re currently tracking, it ranked eighth in terms of its demo ratings and seventh in terms of audience size.
Falling Water is the only first run USA series performing worse in the demo, yet it has not been either cancelled or renewed. Eyewitness outperformed both it, and the second season of the Playing House TV show. USA renewed the latter for a third season, back in January 2016, which should premiere this spring.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of Eyewitness? Should USA have cancelled or renewed this TV show for season two? Sound off in the comments.
Please bring it back! It is so important to have programs that are gay positive, especially for LGBTQ young people. The show was coming around to a warm and nurturing place by the end of its short run. The world can be a cold and inhospitable place for youth, and particularly for those who are “different”.
I want this show back…NOW!!!!
I was looking forward to season 2. I thought it was a great show. I am disappointed it is not returning.
I loved Eyewitness. What a different show. Absolutely great!!
Bring back EYEWITNESS season 2. This is the first modern intelligent thriller of its kind. Give it a chance to grow. I’m done with the USA network!
IF PEOPLE DONT LIKE THE GAY RELATION SHIP.. DONT WATCH THE SHOW!!!! AND DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT IT, AND GET IT CANCELED.
There needs to be a season two. Eyewitness is a good show. It is a great show. Season two needs to happen. It can’t just end. If people have a problem with Philip and Lukas, then they don’t have to watch the show. That is just the way the world is. Its not fair for those who don’t mind it and enjoy watching the show. It’s about crime and family too. There should be a season two for those who are in love with the characters no matter what.
So sad it was a great show you should use Carlyn burchell in other projects she is quite amazing and beautiful and the audience loves her.
I Would love see season 2 please renew the show
Of course I would watch a season two! This show was brilliant. It’s a crime that a show this great was cancelled with all the crap on TV. USA did not promote this show!! Why?? The acting by everyone and writing was sensational! Don’t listen to the negative uptight comments from those who couldn’t stand watching two boys make out. What do they think teens in love do? Their love story is one of the most beautiful and touching love stories I have seen on screen. It transcended gender. And, they were crucial to the plot. I hope this show… Read more »
I watched the full 10 episodes in a 24 hour period.. it was like the epic book you could not put down back in the old days. Was completely compelling .Sucked in, in the 1st 5 min and had to keep watching. Cast was perfect. Storyline twists and turns,, brilliant, and usually I pick holes in all crime dramas I watch.. but this was very clever. I found myself rushing to the the next episodes yet feeling increasing regret as I knew it was coming to an end. On reflection perhaps a season 2 would fall short.. It would have… Read more »
I have easily watched Eyewitness 15 times since the show finished and it truly showed more demographics than anything airing in the USA. So to start I’m an American woman married to a Norwegian man with children and grandchildren, and I have watched the original show aired in Norway. The topics that the first season of Eyewitness advanced are significant to talk about & it is crucial that they are characterized on television for people to see. These topics include a realistic teen gay relationship, mental illnesses and syndromes such as PTSD & contemplations of and attempts at suicide, substance… Read more »
IMO, “Eyewitness” was a great show…the acting, characters, plot twists were great! How could you cancel this and not “Falling Waters,” or some of the other garbage on TV. There is virtually nothing left on TV now that is worth watching. Really sorry to hear that you couldn’t have at least given it one more season. Probably time to cancel Direct TV since there’s nothing worth watching anyway.
Fantastic show, loved everything about it, thanks for making it, and more please at this quality level! The gay relationship simply seemed essential to the plot, adding very plausibly to why the boys resisted reporting what they saw. Controversial—WTF?!? There’s hardly a show out there these days without some non-hetero characters doing what we all do. IMO, the story and each character’s main conflicts were all wrapped up very well with no sense of needing more, and dragging the characters into another season in which all were similarly engaged in a single coherent plot-line would have been a stretch; there… Read more »
I am so unbelievably upset that this show has been cancelled. I am very disappointed with the network not giving it more of a chance to see these boys evolve and create new drama and surprises behind their stories. I think this is a bad decision. The story was intriguing, the acting amazing and the character development on point. Oh well, another well done show gone… SAD.
