Family Feud is honoring a milestone this fall. This week, it was announced the series’ will celebrate its 40th anniversary when the new season premieres in September.
Hosted by Steve Harvey, the long-running game show pits two families against each other in a series of questions. The show premiered in 1976 with Richard Dawson as the host.
The new season of Family Feud debuts on September 12th.

Los Angeles, CA (August 29, 2016) – Bring out the birthday cake! The celebration kicks off on Monday, September 12, 2016 (check local listings) when Family Feud returns for its new season, forty years after the nationally syndicated game show first debuted in 1976! The upcoming season brings all new answers, laughs and hilarious reactions from host Steve Harvey.
“Can you believe Family Feud is 40 years old?” said Steve Harvey. “I’m thrilled to be part of this amazing milestone and wish it many more decades of success.”
Family Feud is produced by FremantleMedia North America and distributed by Debmar-Mercury. The series will feature families from across the U.S. who will once again be joined by the hilarious Steve Harvey as they compete for the chance to win up to $20,000 by guessing the most popular answers to questions posed to 100 people surveyed. Auditions for the season were held in Atlanta, the Bay Area, Kansas City and Philadelphia.
In the 2015-16 season, Family Feud delivered a 6.6 household rating to rank second among all syndicated series and first among game shows – a major feat in a category that Wheel of Fortune had dominated for more than three decades since its 1983 debut in syndication.”
