Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
DID you renew FOREVER? I read you had. Thank you, I think.

What a shame…hard to find really good shows these days and Forever was one of the few gems out there. I’m sick of reality TV and mindless dribble that passes for entertainment.
I am so upset Forever has been cancelled. It should have been given a chance. It was a wonderful intelligent show. Loved Henry’s remembrancing of his past. The history of it was great. I also would like to see it picked up by another network. It was quality Tv. My 33 year old daughter loved it as well so it appealed to a younger audience as well.
Hey decision making suits! You really screwed up on this one! Hopefully another network with smarter suits will pick this GEM of a show up! At least try a different time slot, or as a spring season show. This well acted show needs to be reincarnated!
Cancel Forever? With some of the other crap on TV getting renewed? The networks don’t know a quality show even if it bit them on the you-know. It was a good, watchable show that should’ve at least been given a 13-episode pickup by ABC and a shot to build up its audience. Try cancelling Greys Anatomy, AFV, Once Upon a Time or other has-been losers instead and give this rookie a FAIR shot!
I can’t believe this! I really looked forward to Forever being on.
Great end to season one and I couldn’t wait for season two!
The first show to come along that made you think!
This show is entertaining and clever. Pease reconsider!
I don’t think networks give shows a chance. They want instant hits. I watched Forever faithfully and enjoyed every episode. They need to bring it back and if not one more episode to wrap it up.
What!!! This show is fantastic! Why get rid of such a great show.
Of course, another great show is cancelled. Wish the over 60 group was considered an important section when canceling shows. The best shows would still be on tv if we were valuable.
This show is intriguing. Has depth, interesting dialogue, humor, compassion. Time slot is the problem. Should have been given chance for second season. Allow viewers to see the development of main characters understanding each other’s hidden side.
All about the money, though, not about delighting the viewers who have to think a little about the plot of the show.
Think a little about the plot? It was predictable as all get-out.
My husband and I, who have different tastes in shows, we both enjoy the series Forever and are hoping that another network will pick up this show.
Unbelievable! All of the garbage on TV and Forever gets cancelled? This show is wonderful and we are left hanging! I couldn’t wait until the next season! Hopefully Netflix will pick it up. This was a truly interesting show, great acting, such a shame.
