Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
This is too bad. Forever was one of the few shows I watched each week. Maybe a network smarter than ABC will pick it up.
It is a travesty FOREVER must no be cancelled. It is the only TV that I watch.
Brilliant premise, fabulous acting, gorgeous cast.
Why do they always cancel the great shows? It’s ridiculous!
NOOOOOOO! They cannot stop this fabulous series! It is my favourite show. Please keep it going. I love all the actors in it especially Dr Morgan of course.
It’s just darned crazy!! This show is awesome!! Please, Ohhh please, bring it back.
I loved the show!!!! It was smartly written and always kept you guessing, will someone else find out. I am sooooooo sad, and I want it back!!!!!!
I loved this show. I hope another network picks it up. It was different, you learned something, and you see two people start to really care for each other. ABC has made a hugh mistake in cancelling this show.
My wife and I really loved this series. It’s one of the best we’ve seen in some time. I suspect ratings say more about the sampling than the show. We hope that it will return.
Great show – the characters, the actors, the scripts. One of our favorites. Hope another network picks it up.
I cannot believe abc canceled this series.abc doesnt have a very good line of shows and this was one of the best.Shame on you, you just can!t compete with CBS.
I agree. This was/is a wonderful show. Maybe a cable channel will pick it up; perhaps TNT.? I’m sure more episodes were planned. One can only hope. There are so few good, sensible and intelligent shows on TV now.
That’s what I was thinking.. Forever would fit good on TNT.
i hope tnn, spike tv, usa or fxp gets it because abc is not doing nothing….
It is disappointing to hear of the cancellation when so much junk remains.
I am also upset you are cancelling Forever. There is not too many shows on Tv that are those comedy shows. Some are so stupid and not funny. We and other we know love the show. We hope that you reconsider. The acting is good. We are always thinking what is next. WE have a lot of good shows cancelled because of rating. The older gender love to have good shows like Forever not shows like the Big Bang. They don’t have any sense of rhythm to it. Please reconsider us adult need some good shows like Forever to watch… Read more »
Sad that networks can’t see a decent show when they have one right in front of them. Bring back Forever and get rid of other crap instead. Best show on TV now there is nothing worth watching. By the way, way don’t you survey a broader age range, you might find your market expanded.
I completely agree! I am sick of them focusing on a young group. I would love to see which age group responded the most in their survey and how they gathered the stats.
Disappointing. I don’t watch much television but I enjoyed the original story lines and characters and the historical flashbacks and more.
Forever was one show I really looked forward to, and ABC programmers are nuts by cancelling it. Instead should we be subjected to Married at First Sight instead.
Ridiculous!
Do Nielsens count how many record and then watch it later? It’s the first series of its kind that both my wife and myself have watched together in many years. Very disappointing that it’s been killed off. My assessment is that a reasonable core of viewers had developed between episodes 12 and 19 to see things develop between Henry and Jo, but but after they introduced Cuba Gooding Jr’s character (Isaac Monroe) as a possible serious love interest for Jo in the Punk is Dead episode, many viewers were disheartened that Jo and Henry were seemingly not destined for each… Read more »
I’m so disappointed this show has been cancelled after the first season, I love the show. Please run the other seasons……please, please, please!!!
My wife and I quite enjoyed watching Forever and were looking forward to watching next year’s episodes. I think that cancelling this is a bad move.
I am very sad to hear this, it was the first show in ages I really really enjoyed, what a bad decision :((
