Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
Loved the show and season 1.
I really looked forward to the next season.
I watched every episode. I wish they would reconsider!!!
I think ABC should think. I’d wholesome TV gone “FOREVER”? Don’t know much about ratings demographics but I’m well educated, loved the fantasy as well as th actors and am quite sick of TV comedies. How is it possible that “FOREVER” is cancelled but “UNDER THE DOME” (enough – great first season – is stupid) is not? No wonder NetfLIX and Amazon Prime are doing so well. ABC – you’ve made a BIG mistake this time. Hoprefully “PROOF” will prove me wrong. Obedient know because I got th premise after one episode. How does ABC fare with that ridiculous CONCEPT?
Terrible that this was cancelled!!!! I can’t find any good shows anymore, I used to watch shows like Monk but like all good things that came to an end too. I hope they reconsider this one and renew it after all!!!
I loved the show but had a hard time finding it
So dissapointed that there will not be a second season.
I’m a teacher and finally got around to watching all the shows I had DVR’d over the school year. By far my favorite was “Forever”. I binge watched the show only to get very excited for next season. I had told my wife and friends and could’nt wait to tell my students next semester. I teach history so historical fiction can be a fun way to encourage a passion for the past. It has been a week since I finished watching so this morning I looked up when the next episodes would be. Not again “firefly” feelings again. New Shows… Read more »
I so agree with you! I am an old granny soon to be a great granny and my family was with me last week. With effort I got them to watch the first season of Forever. All felt it was my obsession but after two episodes they were all hooked and no effort at all for them to be just as obsessed as I. I especially agree with the shows potential to grow into a all time classic if it isn’t one already. I still can’t believe it hasn’t been picked up.
Cant believe it was cancelled I love the show and had just got several of my friends addicted to it as with all shows it takes a bit for it to take of or become a big hit just Like the show bones and csi but U guys didn’t cancel those and now look their really popular among your viewers I even recorded the forever shows and had friends watch them with me cause they fell in love with it and so did they. their is even a page for the show forever where fans are begging that you bring… Read more »
I think that a 2nd season of Jo knowing Henry’s secret and helping to protect him with also falling for him would have made a great 2nd season. I will really miss it. I wish they would change their minds.
They could even have Abe get sick (and well) and Jo have to help Henry through it.
please change you minds
There have only been a few series worthy of my attention in the past decade: Lost, Sleepy Hollow (anyone who loved Forever and hasn’t heard of this one needs to seek it out), Once Upon a Time (Which ABC is suffocating through a make-everyone-nice approach), Agents of SHIELD, Deadliest Catch (The only reality TV I will watch). FOREVER ranked up at the top for me with Sleepy Hollow. I’m very sad to see this one go. The characters and storyline were excellent. Henry’s know it all personality grew on me. There were two shows out of this first season that… Read more »
Very disappointed forever was cancelled – great show, well written and great range of actors too. Please renew for a new season
It is unfair to try this concept over and over, and never let it have more than 1 season (New Ampsterdam) for example. the storyline is complicated, and i like that. Sy Fy should put tese shows on, and give them a chance.
Absolutely excellent show with very good actors, with a mix of age, with humour, darkness, romantic involvements, risk, etc.
We’ve moved on from reality TV rubbish, Forever had true drama and a sense of wanting to see the next epsiode.
Please start recording a second series.
Loved this show, why do they cancel the good shows. Please reconsider
Forever was a great story . This TV series is like the fugitive a great show.
The problem is it ABC is such a weak station it’s in Camino Fanbase any other cable company would done better. We’re so sick of watching reality TV give us a break and bring it back.
“Forever” was a great show. Loved the action, mystery, actors, and the fun facts of this series. I hate when I get attached to a series and its characters and then it gets cancelled. I sincerely hope that they allow another channel or Netflix pick it up and continue this awesome story. It has the potential to go at least 6 seasons. I was really looking forward to seeing Jo’s reaction to Henry’s secret and the development of their relationship. It’s rare to find a show that is smart and funny with a connection to history. Someone needs to help… Read more »
