A few years ago, FOX had some of the top-rated TV shows on the air. Now, the network is struggling. Which series will be cancelled and which will be renewed? Stay tuned.
How do the execs decide what to cancel or keep? They look at a lot of different factors but the ratings play a very large role. The higher the ratings, the better chances a show has of surviving.
FOX shows this season (so far): American Idol, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, Backstrom, Bob’s Burgers, Bones, Boom!, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Bullseye, Empire, Family Guy, The Following, Glee, Golan the Insatiable, Gotham, Gracepoint, Hell’s Kitchen, Home Free, Knock Knock Live, The Last Man on Earth, MasterChef, MasterChef Junior, The Mindy Project, Mulaney, New Girl, Red Band Society, The Simpsons, Sleepy Hollow, So You Think You Can Dance, Utopia, Wayward Pines, and Weird Loners.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are therefore supposedly harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make room for something else?
It’s worth mentioning above that Hell’s Kitchen s14 has also been renewed (for season 15 and 16)
I’d agree with that. Thanks.
I love Red Band Society. It’s a wonderful show, definitely worth saving. Not that it matters but I’m 35 and do not watch scripted shows. Please, at least air the remaining 3 episodes. This show means something to a lot of people. Please, bring back Red Band Society!!!!!!
This show needs to be cancelled!!! Awful!
Gotham is awesome!
Love show the bridge please renew for 2015 season.
What ever happened to the game show boom on fox? I seen it was on the coming soon and now it’s gone. Anyone know of an air date of this?
Yay for empire Gotham and B99 for getting renewed

Sleepy Hollow, it’s a keeper, give them a chance, love the show! Brooklyn nine nine is a keeper too!
I can’t believe that Bobs Burgers has been renewed for a 6th season with these terrible ratings and dreadful viewership. I hope that FOX brings back futurama next season. Now that’s a good show that’s guaranteed to get better ratings than Bobs Burgers. I’m pretty sure Bordertown will do well. It’s got the Seth McFarlane name on it. I’m so glad The Simpsons has been renewed. Probably the best show that FOX has at the moment (alongside Family guy and Gotham). I think it’s going to go until atleast season 30. Family Guy will 100% be renewed. It’s just a… Read more »
So looking foward to Empire and wishing all involved every success, especially Taraji P. Henson. Cookie Lyon will be awesome and fearsome!
All our friends look forward to the 24 series. It is one of the few shows we enjoy.
Waiting…. Still waiting to hear about “24” renewal!!!!!!!!! It could go on for years with all the political material available.
List of shows needed to be updated to include “Empire” which begins airing on January 7
It is just sad to see the older animated shows be the highest-rated on the network while the younger, live-action ones struggle.
