TV show description:
This cop drama follows the LAPD’s multi-agency Gang Task Force as they take on the city’s most dangerous gangs.
Detective Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez) is a rising star in the force but he has a secret. He lost his father at an early age and was taken in and raised by the Acosta family. Before he became a cop, Ryan pledged his allegiance to a different band of brothers –- the powerful Latino gang called Los Angelicos.
When Ryan’s best friend and police partner is senselessly killed by a notorious gang member, Ryan teams up with Task Force member and DEA Agent Cassius Green (RZA). He’s been at the forefront of the city’s war on organized crime for a long time.
Despite his devotion to his job, Ryan is still beholden to the crime family’s leader, Javier Acosta (Cliff Curtis). He’s the father figure that Ryan has tried to make proud his entire life — and the man who masterminded his entry into the police force.
Ryan’s secret has been held for a decade by Ryan, Javier, and Javier’s sons; cold-blooded gang lieutenant Carlos (Rey Gallegos) and straight-laced investment banker Daniel (Jay Hernandez), Ryan’s childhood best friend.
But Ryan is starting to realize that he is even more dedicated to being a cop than he is to Los Angelicos. He is respected by his team, including FBI Agent Tae Kim (Sung Kang), ICE Agent Vanessa “Vee” Hicks (Inbar Lavi) and the task force leader, Sam Chapel (Terry O’Quinn).
Chapel is Ryan’s other surrogate father figure. His estranged daughter, Jessica (Shantel VanSanten), is the city’s Assistant District Attorney.
Episode #13 — Malandros
Daniel uses his wedding to finalize a deal between Javier and Lavar Quintel. Chapel leads his team into Mexico to find murder suspect Matias. Chapen and Ryan learn that Javier ordered the hit on Jessica. Ryan has Javier transferred to the metas side of jail where he finds a “welcome party.”
First aired: August 14, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like the Gang Related TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Renewing this program would be in best interests of the network as it rates better than any of the shows on the 3 major networks on Thursday night. It’s not going head-to-head with what I consider the best shows on TV which are on other nights. The story is compelling although for some probably a little far fetched (sorry mid-west) but having grown up in Los Angeles and watch the city and county change, to borrow a phrase from Jack Webb’s Joe Friday and Dragnet “the names have been changed” but not to protect the innocent. The story is the… Read more »

This is one of the best shows on TV. I enjoy the spanish language used in show. It is so real. I am hispanic and can identify with the language and culture. Please don’t cancell.
this show is fantastic….working in a prison for immigration, I have a personal knowledge of how proud the latinos are of their gang affiliation and the misguided love they have belonging to the group..this shows every aspect of that loyalty, as misdirected as it may be, and is a totally believable story line..Cliff Curtis was excellent as Pablo Escobar in Johnny Depps BLOW and is even better in GANG RELATED as Javier, el hefe. My wife, and my work colleagues sit by the TV and wait for the next twist..This show rivals Spaders BLACKLIST and is somewhat reminiscent of PRISON… Read more »
this is one of the best shows on tv..the story grips you almost as well as the BlackLlist does…and for the most part and from working in a prison with immigration, it is realistic in its portrayal of the gang lifestyle, and the latino brotherhood of gangs and their pride at belonging and the misguided love and direction they take from their boss. Tthis show is great and the characters play their parts well….Cliff Curtis was Pablo Escobar in Johnny Depps BLOW and is even better as Javier Acosta in GR….
I loved this show with all the difference actors. Please continue with new shows, not like Southland, and Dark Blue that were not renewed.
Love this show! Would be so disappointed to see it canceled. PLEASE renew!!!
