Will there be more Gilmore Girls? Recently, stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel discussed the possibility of another Netflix revival, Deadline reports.
This past November, the streaming service debuted Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life—a four-part follow-up to the original WB/CW series. The cast included Graham, Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Keiko Agena, Sean Gunn, Matt Czuchry, Milo Ventimiglia, and Yanic Truesdale.
During a recent panel, Graham said she doesn’t think there’s a need for more Gilmore Girls:
I love her writing; from the moment I read the pilot, I felt so connected to Amy Sherman-Palladino’s voice as a writer. It was so invigorating and fulfilling to do that work. In terms of an actor, I would never tire of that. Now it has become, ‘What can we do that is satisfying, and worth continuing, and gratifying to the people who care so much about it.’ I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I would never want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome. … There’s probably a way to keep these characters alive but I don’t know if that’s the best thing for them.”
Bledel mentioned she isn’t sure if she’d dive back in for another season:
I think for me it comes down to what story we’re telling. I’m just interested in telling a story that is dynamic and that I sort of relate to and can hook into. And if that happens … I don’t know. It’s such an unknown, I don’t think we anticipated that this would happen.”
Later, Bledel revealed the ending of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was not what she was expecting:
It certainly wasn’t the ending I was expecting. I told Amy that I hoped Rory would end on a high note. After all her hard work, I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest. I was hoping that we would see that she had lived an interesting life and had been fulfilled up until this point where her grandfather dies and [she] comes back home. But, because I know Amy after all these years, I knew it was her true intention and it was something that satisfied her as a writer because she knew the reaction she was going to get from the audience. … So I trusted her.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Gilmore Girls? Do you think there should be more episodes?
Please, continue the story! You’ve left all the story lines up in the air! Rory, Lauralie and Luke….what they do about a baby, with Rory having a baby. Jess (still in love with Rory). Emily … how her life plays out—especially when she hears of Rory’s pregnancy. How did Rory’s book do? And of course Paris! She’s always wonderful! What of her and Doyle? Such opportunities! Please don’t just end it where you did!!
LOVE LOVE Gilmore girls since the begining, I’ve reawatched the whole series like 5 times and when Netflix brought the show again I thought wow great move Netflix, but just 4 episodes is not enough weee in Latinamerica want more of the Gilmores’. And also the smart fascinating thrilling conversations between Lorelai and Rory. the last finale (hoping that isn’t the last one) was never expected at all, it was sooo unexpected that I coughed water out of my mouth with Rory’s news. Keep it up comming.
I would like to see it continue.X
Love love love the Gilmore girls have watched all 7 seasons 4 times over and I never tire of watching. Please please please bring them back we want more.
I hope they do make another season but only because i hated the way the revival ended. Im a huge Gilmore girls fan and loved all 7 seasons but I thought the revival was a little boring. After watching the revival it just seemed like the episodes were too long considering there really isnt all that much happening in each one. The revival didn’t do Rory justice at all either! It seemed to undo all of the hard work the character had done over the 7 season of the tv show and ended up placing her back in Stars Hollow… Read more »
Gilmore girls is a huge part of my life, through the entire series (which I watched 4 times in a row) I watched Rory go through her entire school career, have several boyfriends and the best mother daughter relationship. When the revival came out in 2016 I screamed with joy(literally) I sat on my bed and cried when I read that the two main characters didn’t want to expand on the fact that Rory was pregnant! I need to know if Rory’s baby belongs to Logan or well we are all wondering,”The wookie”. I am begging Amy Sherman palladino to… Read more »
Love Gilmore Girls…..Please, bring it back
A new season would be great. The revival was great and it just make us wanting for more.
I love love the show and would be delighted if there were a spin-off. I expected great things from Rory, but the writer gave us a strong dose of reality. Not all endings will be happy and the straight A student may not excel. It’s interesting the avenue Rory took, to come full circle and possibly experience a life similar to that of her and her mom, with the financial support of her family, of course. I think the journey could continue and a great writer knows how to make a reading salivate for more. We all knew Luke and… Read more »
Well with the way it ended, I would like to see more. I hate it when shows end in a sort of cliff hanger with no return. The show needs to come back and when it ends, end it well – with closure
I took a Netflix subscription just to watch the new episodes, pure escapism, I love it and would like to see more.
Don’t going into Rory whole life; maybe leap into the future with a successful career, relationship or marriage and maybe an additional child. They all show up at Emily’s for The holidays and they catch us up on years between. The show ends with everyone returning to their lives.
