TV show description:
Set in the 1950s, in the Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester, the Grantchester TV show is a British detective drama based on James Runcie’s Grantchester Mysteries. The story centers on sleuthing Anglican vicar Sidney Chambers (Norton) and his partner in crime-fighting, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Green).
Young, amiable, attractive, and appealing, Sidney loves warm beer, hot jazz, and his black Labrador, Dickens. A modest and diligent man, Sidney works hard at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Mary. His parishioners appreciate his moral observations and dry wit.
Although he is a romantic, and an optimist who thinks the best of people, Sidney has a keen intuition and knows how to follow it. Having served in the Scots Guard during the war, he is haunted by nightmares and even flashbacks.
Sidney becomes fast friends with Geordie, a gruff, blunt, over-worked police detective. His deliberative, disciplined, analytical approach to cases balances well with the vicar’s instinctive style. Geordie is married to Cathy (Ainsworth) a busy mother of their growing family.
Amanda Kendall (Christie) is a beautiful heiress and the object of Sidney’s affection. Although she returns his feelings, these would-be lovers seem perpetually star-crossed, as Amanda’s father does not want her to marry beneath her station.
Leonard Finch (Weaver) is Sidney’s curate at the church. This naïve young man is gay, in an intolerant time and place.
Strong-willed and not above being bossy, Mrs. Maguire (Peake-Jones) is Sidney’s housekeeper. She rules the roost at the vicarage and does her best to keep Sidney in line.
The heart of this TV series is the deep friendship between Sidney and Geordie. Whether they are solving crimes, or dealing with personal problems, they always come through for one another.

What do you think? Do you like the Grantchester TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season on PBS?
I love Grantchester, please, please renew, renew, renew!!
I love Grantchester and have watched all the shows from the beginning over and over. Please continue this program.
It has been a very satisfying series in which to get involved. I would love for it to continue. I, too, am pulling for Sydney and Amanda.
I am hoping that subsequent series will prevail. The acting, actors, and setting are excellent. I am cheering for an Amanda & Sydney reunion………they were meant to be together from the very beginning.
Pleae keep this going. The surprise twists in the plot are amazing as are the actors.
The highlight of my summer 2017 viewing was the third season of Grantchester on PBS. I would love to see more seasons, but I acknowledge that the third ended satisfactorily for all of the characters. (not a fan of Amanda!)
Love everything about this series…acting, writing, plot, location. Please return Grantchester with the original cast!
Please continue this show. It’s one of the best
Yes, please renew Grantchester. Love the show.
Extend for another season. One of the best current series.
Great Acting, Great stories, Great writing, a definite RENEW
It’s a great entertaining show – One of the few left the n TV. Please do not cancel it. Wonderful characters and story line. Acting is terrific. Anxiously awaiting the next season.
absolutely!!! We love the show. What a combination of characters and interlaced plots–especially in the last two episodes of this season.
Please renew Grantchester for another season! I love the characters and the writing. It is a very nice way to spend Sunday evening and would be sorely missed.
Season 3 Episode 7 was beautiful; superb acting and writing/directing. Encourage renewal of this wonderful program.
