More like Great British Break Off. The BBC reports that Great British Bake Off hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc are leaving the popular UK series after seven seasons.
Created in 2010, the unscripted show pits amateur bakers against each other in a series of themed challenges. Judges include professional bakers Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
The news of Perkins and Giedroyc’s exit comes just after it was announced The Great British Bake Off would be moving networks, from the BBC to Channel 4. The two hosts released a statement, saying they had a great time filming the show with the BBC:
The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 [million] at its peak.
We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”
It has not been announced yet whether Berry and Hollywood will be returning for season eight of the show. However, Berry will appear in season two of ABC’s version of the series, The Great American Baking Show, when it premieres this December.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Great British Bake Off? Will you watch it without Sue and Mel?
I love this show and will watch it what ever channel it is on!
I have to agree with Anne; a major reason I watch the show is Mel & Sue’s hosting. They’re very charismatic and I really do appreciate their support and attention to the bakers. They will, most certainly, be missed!
I think it’s a big mistake. They made the whole show.
