This year, in its 15th season, Grey’s Anatomy matches the record of ER as the longest-running primetime medical drama. Grey’s continues to be one of ABC’s top-rated shows so it seems certain that it will be renewed for a 16th season. Who will leave, stay, or return? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A high-intensity medical drama series that airs on ABC, Grey’s Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, Jesse Williams, Caterina Scorsone, Camilla Luddington, Kelly McCreary, and Giacomo Gianniotti. Though this series has been on the air for 15 seasons, there is still plenty of personal and professional drama to come. Meredith Grey (Pompeo) and the other doctors at Seattle’s Grey Sloan Memorial are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. This team of healthcare professionals share friendship and sometimes, even more. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The 14th season of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC averaged a 1.93 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and 7.56 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Grey’s Anatomy TV series? Should this ABC TV show be cancelled or renewed for a 16th season?
*5/10/19 update: ABC has renewed Grey’s Anatomy for two years — season 16 (2019-20) and season 17 (2020-21).
Grey’s Anatomy is becoming a daytime soap opera. Storylines no longer make sense…..anything that could be interesting is never told properly and stops with no meaningful conclusion. Just bad writing. Stopped watching after season 14 when it appeared to be going downhill pretty fast and of course when the April/Jackson story ended.
I continue to try to LIKE Grey’s Anatomy, but I think the show should be “put down.” It’s tired and quite frankly it’s too too too personal-back story-heavy. In my opinion, the fast-talking scenes, like from Dr. Jo Wilson, played by Camilla Luddington, are so over-the-top. It gives me a headache. No one talks like that all the time in real life, and that’s all her character does. And I’m tired of Dr. Hunt spitting out babies with women he’s slept with. It’s almost like “Modern Family,” a show which used to be funny, but now the characters’ scripts are… Read more »
Grey’s Anatomy needs to be canceled. It was a fantastic show, however, the writers have lost amazing actors along the way. Especially with those they let leave at the end of Season 14!! Then they wrote this horrendous bs with Jackson and Maggie that is just pure puke worthy. I honestly am so over Maggie that I refuse to watch the show anymore. To top it off because Station 19 is a spin off that has Maggie on it in an episode I refuse to watch that show too!! Either get your writing together as he writer panel and have… Read more »
The show should be canceled, because they won’t be able to keep up with all the expenses v/s the revenues. After the U$20M spent in only one actress, plus all the new hires, you can see thay the numbers will not add up week after week. No a very smart investment!!
Wasn’t Ellen Pompeo the one that demanded a pay raise?
And you know what? I remember Miss Pompeo saying years ago.. that she was leaving the show. Literally, like years ago.. but she’s still on (she’s actually the only character I still genuinely like on the show). Everyone else… they’re acting is too over-the-top and doesn’t ring true.
