What’s This TV Show About?
A psychological thriller streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, Gypsy centers on Manhattan psychologist Jean Holloway (Naomi Watts). Despite her seemingly perfect life with her husband Michael (Billy Crudup), Jean starts to form inappropriate, intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives. As the boundaries between her professional life and personal fantasies crumble, her desires push her to sink to new lows. Jean is in danger of completely losing touch with reality. The rest of the cast includes Sophie Cookson, Lucy Boynton, Karl Glusman, Melanie Liburd, Poorna Jagannathan, Brenda Vaccaro, and Brooke Bloom.
On August 11, 2017, Gypsy was cancelled so there won’t be a second season. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Because Nielsen doesn’t track streaming platform ratings, it is hard to gauge the performance of TV shows like Gypsy, unless Netflix decides to publicize its success. Early critical reviews from Deadline and USA Today have been mixed. While both outlets commend Watts’ performance, they both also take issue with the writing on Gypsy. Although Netflix has been known for giving its original series time to build an audience, lately, they’ve been a little quicker to cancel TV series like Girlboss and The Get Down after just one season. That knowledge and hose reviews have really whet my appetite. I’ll keep a hungry eye on this show and update this page with any new developments. Smart Series with a strong Female lead. I saw the series and binge watched all 10 episodes. Frankly I was shocked by the ****** review in the NYTimess and wondered if they really watched the show. Naomi Watts is fantastic, she leads you to believe she is mild mannered but under the surface, she is complex,risky and slightly crazy. Which is scary because she gets so involved in her patients lives. I hope Netflicks renews for season 2
It HAS to be renewed, if only for 1 mote season ( I’d prefer 2 but I’ll take what I can get!). This is a thrilling series with a knockout performance by Naomi Watts who is just a sexy as she’s ever been. I binged on this psychological thriller because I could not stop watching it. It DOES move s little slowly but so what? Its tantalizing. Love Naomi and the Sid character- chemistry galore! Yes please!
I love it. Read a review on the NYTimes that, basically, called it boring. Why are people so hyper-critical?? I think the acting is great. I think the story is interesting. I think the relationships are believable. The conversation, in episode 9, between Micheal and Jean regarding Neverland and trying to escape our day-to-day reality, struck a chord with me.
Well-written and visually stunning.
It would be a shame if it was cancelled.

I love this series. I am watching it for a second time……so many twists and turns. It is about the slow unraveling of sociopaths (yes there are more than Jean Holloway/Diane Hart). This show left unanswered questions and several cliffhangers. If it is not renewed I will really be disillusioned with Netflix.

Very few shows I have ever watched grabbed me like this one has. I have watched this 1st season over and over and am still seeing and catching things I missed. Watching the chemistry between Naomi and Sophie build is intoxicating like a drug. Amazing show. As others have said, nothing like it on TV anywhere now. PLEASE RETURN ANOTHER SEASON.
