Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

All you blow-hards right and left, re-freakin-lax! (trainman 55, J cooper, Brian) The show is for fun. Sure it may have a political tint, but who cares!! It’s very well written, very well acted and just an hour of entertainment. It’s entertainment utilizing current events. Kathy Bates is awesome as is the rest of the cast. …Show won’t get hurt if just the three of you knuckleheads go watch Family Feud.
Is NBC for real with this show? Aren’t we in 2011? Why would NBC think it’s okay to portray yet another old white woman as the savior of poor black folk? Why is it okay to have black people speak Ebonics, play gang members and drug dealers and have the only person who can “save” these poor, uneducated, black people is this great white hope who couldn’t hack it as a lawyer.
This show is a piece of crap. NBC please stop disrespecting African Americans and insulting our intelligence.
I love this series and i hope that it stays on a long time
Kathy Bates is amazing! I hope to see more of this show. Kept me interested and for the most part, laughing…keep it on the upcoming menu!
it’s intelligent. leave it on.
greatest show in a long time, kathy bates is truly amazing. the story line gets better and better by the week, im looking forward to so much more to come. nbc u made me a fan thank u.
I really like this show and hope it will be continued. The character’s are well portrayed and the story line is very entertaining. The episodes make me think about the law and how real people are effected. I’d like to think that the judicial system would give a promising young man a second chance and that a jury would let an impoverished elderly robber go free. In real life, perhaps not.But this is TV where the impossible can be given a chance. I just love Kathy Bates, too. More Harry’s Law, please.
Harry’s Law is the best new show this year. Kathy Bates is wonderful. They take the opportunity to really slug it home for the little guy. It is a good stage for opening the curtain on what happens to people who do not have high priced lawyers to get them off. I love it.
Love Harry’s Law. At least the 60 plus crowd loves it we’ve had more then our share of violence. Its refreshing and entertaining… For those who don’t like it thats ok watch something else….
Liked the show- Kathy Bates is great and it was nice to see
Chris MacDonald!
I love this show.. It has integrity and Kathy Bates’s character (Harriet) does a wonderful job as a lawyer who gave up her la-te-da practice (she was actually became redundant) and helps the less fortunate. I LOVE it’s flavor.. and oh btw.. This IS GOOD ENTERTAINMENT….
I thought this show would be something I would enjoy, ran onto it last night….as soon as the political BS started it was off my screen. We get enough of this crap on the news. Why can’t you people produce a program that is not political. Lets be frank your views are yours, I do not care about them the same as you do not care about mine. Lets have some good entertainment for a change!!!!!
Watched three episodes, after picking it up in mid-season. Was subjected to what I believe was the original episode last night and realized that my initial feeling that the show had a liberal bias was correct. When Ms. Bats spewed her “Law And Order” type of cheap shot dialogue about Rush Limbaugh, I realized that this show was nothing more than liberal propaganda. It caused the end of, long running “Law And Order” and will eventually bring this piece of garbage down too!
Harry’s Law is not only one of the BEST of its type EVER, because it expresses what occurs in all aspects of law; its expressive dialogue & ACTING on all levels -CAMERA & DIRECTING is accomplished superbly! – – – The ‘mix’ of characters is well balanced!!! GIVE IT THE TIME IT DESERVES!!!!!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!! i’m liberal but this show is crap…..fast food?? really…..This show is a joke….mrs obama poster child show….blaaaaa
