Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

I love this show! I think it is very entertaining, the first show in a long time I take the time to record and watch.
I *love* Harry’s Law! It’s one of my very favorite shows that I set to record so that I’m sure that I never miss it. Hope it stays around for many seasons.
Do not make another mistake, this is the best show you have produced in years, my DVR is
set so I will not miss an episode. Great show >>> learn from your mistakes.
We love Harry’s Law. It is a refreshing change of pace with quirky but believable characters, good writing, and plots that conclude with each segment but allows for continuation of the story line. I hope the writers keep it focused on provocative themes coupled with a bit of comic relief and don’t let it start taking itself too seriously or get all angry and introspective like L.A. Law and some others did. If they can keep up the atmosphere of the first couple of segments, it has a chance to settle in as a long running hit.
Great Show keep it going!
I LOVE Harry’s Law. It is “smart” TV – forcing the viewer to actually think about the characters and the “character” displayed in each. Great TV from a network that I generally don’t watch. NBC, you have a gem here, keep it!
Harry’s law has to be the best show onTV in years! It’s funny, Bates dry humor constantly makes me laugh. The show has a good serious side as well. This show needs to be renewed next year!
I love it ! It is smart and funny. It can be out there, but in such
a good way. You can be appalled at a character and then jerk your head
around and see the change because HARRY or someone in her crew
made a comment/response to their need. COME ON give this a chance.
We don’t need to to pay attention to overpaid grandstanders. I will be
so upset if this show disappears, perhaps a smarter network will pick it
up. David E K. gee, wonder if he knows what is entertaining ?
Love it–fast paced, seemingly shares insight into actual laws–even though the process is fictional. Has humor and great characters. I appreciated Harry’s tirade when she accused the legal system of punishing her for telling the truth about a guilty client rather than rewarding the truth. Kkathy Bates is believable. Keep it!
I love Kathy Bates and the whole cast. Very good show. I have one complaint, it’s filmed to dark. I’m sure they want to make it look realistic, but I’ve been in court rooms and they are very brightly lit up. There are some people of color in the show and sometimes they blend into the background. Keep the show on the air, please
i hope you will keep harrys law on the aur. it has a wonderful cast who seem to jell together and the writers are fantastic. it should be a hit for many seasons
I absolutely love Harry’s Law. The writing is great and the acting so very great too. I love anything with kathy bates but all the cast just fits so well. Please please keep this on the air!!!!
I find Harry’s Law one of the best series on television….ever!!! Kathy Bates is amazing and the remainder of the cast is good also. the writing is above and beyond!!!! I look forward to the show each week and find myself in tears or outraged by the story lines. They are hitting the problems in our country and making us aware of the problems in a way that arouses our consciences which need to be prodded!
Kathy Bates is a wonderful actress. The show is funny and it has a good moral scheme. The other actors are good and their characters are well written into the story. I think Thomas Jefferson is a great character, who brings some reality and humor to the big money part of the legal system. I would love it if the show continued for the next several years. It is quite enjoyable.
cancel it.
