Don’t look for a third season of Helix on Syfy. The cable channel has cancelled the thriller series after two seasons and 26 episodes.
Helix follows a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to the Arctic. They find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that could decide the future of humankind. The cast includes Billy Campbell, Kyra Zagorsky, Mark Ghanimé, Jordan Hayes, Neil Napier, Matt Long, Steven Weber, Jim Thorburn, and Christina Rosato.
The series debuted in January of 2014 and drew positive numbers for the cable channel. The first season ended up averaging a 0.45 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.39 million viewers.
Syfy renewed it for a second season but the somewhere along the line, lots of viewers seem to have lost interest. The start of season two was down by more than 45% when compared to the series launch.
The numbers got worse as the season progressed and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.17 rating with 560,000 viewers — a season-to-season decline of 60%.
The season (now series) finale aired on April 10th.
What do you think? Did you like the Helix TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season? Why do you think so many people stopped watching?
I am very dissapointed that they chose to not make a third season of my absolute favorite show ” Helix “!!! It’s shocking to me that the ratings for this show were unusually low, considering I,and alot other people World wide were huge fans of this series!! So basically I just really wish they would make a comeback season, that would be awesome !! I really loved this show!!
I think they should continue the show. I loved it and wanted to continue to the 3rd season. If this based on viewings then people need to see that some shows may not have the best but still are loved and enjoyed by those who actually enjoyed watching this series. I hope the producers change their minds and decide to bring back Helix. I was so happy to see season 2 and the way it ended lead me to want to see season 3. Please bring this series back.
Loved the first season! It was starting to get a little boring in the last couple episodes butnoverall it kept you on your toes and made you want to keep watching. Come off of the high from season one, I was so excited to start season two. Well let me tell you, the producers dropped a major ball. It was like they were trying to make it like season 1 in the sense that they created a whole new infectious disease and the team had to come up with a cure for it. Except this season was extremely boring, didn’t… Read more »
I absolutely loved the show. It was like nothing on tv. I don’t understand all the hate for season 2. I thought it was good. The time difference was not difficult. The scenes with Julia were 30 years in the future while the cult was 30 years in the past so I assumed the future was the present if that makes sense. I really enjoyed season 2. I watched on Netflix in like 2 days.
I personally found Helix on Netflix and since I do not have any other way to see TV shows I use Netflix. As soon as season 2 popped up I marathoned the season and absolutely loved it! I assumed this show would last and I shouldn’t worry because season 2 eventually came up. I was curious to see season 3 but it was canceled. Maybe people cannot watch the episodes as soon as it is aired. There are fans everywhere and cancelling this show just brought the fans to stand up higher and confusingly ask “Why?” IN Conclusion this show… Read more »
While I thought that Season 1 was better than Season 2, I still enjoyed the series overall. I think the premise is decent (CDC members investigating viral outbreaks in remote parts of the world), and really started to become attached to the characters. I am left wanting to know more about the Ilaria Corporation and what happens to the main characters. I thought it was well-acted. written, and had decent production — overall, an above average offering. It’s too bad that we’ll never know what happens after the Season 2 finale …
Had what was a great 1st season, until the last two episodes. It seemed like it was going to be like Resident Evil for TV series which I found to be awesome, again until the last 2 episodes. Then came the 2nd season and with it came total disappointment and confusion. Writers ruined this one quick. Dicks.
I was fascinated by the series. The story line was full of suspenseful twists and turns. I am truly saddened.
My wife and i both liked this show a lot. We felt bad when we saw it was canceled. Hope they bring it back. It was thoughtful and original.
Really intriguing premise and mostly interesting story, felt a little disjointed at first in the transition from the first season to the second. Some of the actors were kinda crap though, especially the protag, though it might have been that they just wrote a boring character. Seems like this area is quite unexplored which I think is a pitty, disease/xformed humanity on a micro level etc, zombies has been done to death as much as I love the walking dead, and I will jump into a nuclear reactor before I watch another show where vampires feature – at worst, a… Read more »
Season two was better then the first one.So i like it when there making a thirt part. Mayby a part in the future
It should be finished . I hate it when they cancel show without an end.!
dang it! i loved that series it was awesome! I think more than 3 million were watching that series! There’s something wrong with the ratings! I watched every single episode!
I kind of like both seasons and I personally feel when a show cancels the writers at least should write a book to provide a conclusion to the fans of the shows. This happened with the remake of the show ‘V’ ( the visitors on ABC). The writers would make a little more money and the viewers/readers would have a little more respect and be more supportive of the writers on future projects. Just a thought….
Season 1 was great and ended mysteriously in Paris. Then season 2 starts on a boat and an island with people we don’t know and it becomes a completely different show. Did the original writers get sick? Get amnesia? What? I couldn’t convince my hubby to watch episode 2 and he also had been looking forward to it. Do these people use test audiences before they change the direction of another season? I was afraid they’d do this to Sleepy Hollow too but so far it’s holding on. Helix had it all the first season but then became more “sick”… Read more »
That’s the problem not only with shows, but with bands. The first season/album is great and then they, for whatever reason, do something completely different on the second and it bombs.
