After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that Heros is ending!! It is a very creative show and unlike any other show out there. If “Chuck” (another one of my favs) can make it on NBC another season, then why can’t “Heros”?? VERY UPSET WITH NBC!!!
Damn NBC……. Does anyone really watch NBC now that Heroes is cancelled? Did anyone watch it before? I for one do not and had not. And now I will not. The one show that prolly could have made them any profit they cut. TV does dumb down America. But I guess it really screws you up if you actually work for it. “Yata!!!”
My husband and I have been waiting impatiently for the show to air and now I find out it’s been cancelled. That is ridiculous. It was a show that many people liked and still likes and I hope NBC decides to bring it back.
To be completely honest, Heroes was the only thing i watched on NBC…. great f***king job NBC….
WOW! SO I am REALLY REALLY UPSET that NBC cancelled Heroes! I really enjoyed this show! It was one of the few I watch that kept me on my toes and I religiously had to watch! No Smart NBC! I am VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!
PS I DONT EVEN WATCH TV ANYMORE THERE IS NO POINT TELEVISION DUMBS DOWN AMERICA..BUT I WOULD WAIT EVERY MONDAY TO WATCH HEROES FORGET FOOTBALL ON MONDAY NIGHTS!!! AN IN ALL REALITY IF ITS RAITING WERE REALLY THAT SERIOUS THEN MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT CHANGING THE DAY IT CAME ON OR THE AIRDATE & TIME!!
WHY WOULD U PUT A SHOW ON DURING FALL WHEN IT COMPETING WITH FOOTBALL!! THEY COULD PUT IT ON A TUESDAY AN MAKE MORE MONEY AN ATTRACT ORE VIEWERS!!
HEROES THE BEST ******* LIVING COMIC EVER PUT TOGETHER!!! THE BEST STORYTELLING EVER PUT ON TV!!! THE MOST CONSTANT CHANGE OF EVENTS TWISTS AMAZEMENT AN KEPT U ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT FROM BEGGINING TO END EVERY EPISODE. FOR NBC TO CANCEL SOME OF THE BEST ACTORS ANACTRESSES TO BE PUT TOGETHER IN A SHOW THAT REMINDS YOU OF YOUR CHILDHOOD ALOWS U TO CONNECT WITH CHARACTERS ON A REALISTIC LEVEL OF EMOTION AND ASTONISHMENT AS THE PEOPLE ON THE SHOW GROW AN THERE POWERS MATURE. SERIUSLY IT BRINGS IMAGINATION BACK TO THE COMMUNITY NOBODY WATCHES NBC NODY UNLESS… Read more »
🙁 I am sad…really like this show boo on the network…boooooo
For one I am extremely dissapointed that one of the most compeling and yes at times confusing shows on television was canceled. Heroes was the only show ever to make me switch back and fourth between Monday night football. Which is the number one show every fall so for a network to expect a show to compete is rediculous. So for NBC to cancel due to rating or funding is bull tired of cop shows no creativity is why live sports destroys the number one show on tv everytime. Oh well back to the remote for comercials on Monday night.… Read more »
SO disappointing. The last episode has so many awesome possibilities for a great story line! Season 3 was the only season that didn’t do too great of a job. But season 1 and season 4 were by far the best seasons in the series! It’s completely bull sh*t that it was canceled. One of the best TV Shows of all time.
If you’re going to cancel a Monumentally fantastic and Supremely creative show, then just do it. I will never understand comments like “the show has fallen the past couple of seasons.” Followed by, I would buy it on a pay channel if someone would just pick it up. The show was great every last episode was amazing. The special effects, the story-line, the Powers, my god the Powers, just cool. ANYWay, the comment about …..to be continued Was pretty lame, i mean, it was lame to place it in the episode, Especially since ALLL i heard were talks on how… Read more »
I LOVE HEROES. WHY DO YOU GUYS ALWAYS DO THAT. CUT A GOOD THING OFF. ALL BECAUSE OF NUMBERS, NBC, YOU MAKE ME SICK
Very disappointing. Heros had so much to offer its viewers even through the last season. What I can’t stand is that at the end of the final finale, written on the screen was, To be continued. Come on NBC, it is a real dick move saying to be continued and then canceling the whole series.
Canceling this show is absolute ********, its one of the few interesting shows that actually uses imagination! Typical corporate American decision making, “OMG, a show isn’t hitting 1.000 lets bag it.” Im becoming more and more disgusted with TV every minute. I wont even watch NBC any longer, thanks for dumbing down America NBC. Corporate NBC should puke on themselves then throw themselves in front of a moving bus.
The NBC (like the other old broadcast networks) wouldn’t know a good show if it bit them in the a–. Yea, none of the subsequent seasons were as good as the first season, but I only watched a few shows every week and this was a favorite. Any chance HBO or Showtime could pick it up? I’d pay good money to see another couple seasons. (DVD-only release?)
I DONT LIKE CBS AND NBC ANYMORE CAUSE THEY DONT PUT HEROES ANYMORE NOBODY WATCHES ANYMORE THEY PUT ALL THE OLD AND BORING TV SHOWS THAT NOBODY WATCHES!….
