After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I’m done with NBC. This was finally a good family show. I am certain the budget could have been worked out with all of the money they receive from viewers. ABC and ABC family here I come!
NBC you sucks.Bring back HEROES…Can’t wait to see milo & zachary in another new episode.
NBC Sucks they always do this. They cancel a series with a cliffhanger and no final episode or ending. They did the same thing with my name is Earl and several other shows. At least they should give an ending. If they didn’t have Chuck and the Sing Off I would never watch NBC again.
NBC bring back HEROES……
If the issue was overhead and not having the money to keep paying for the special tx, or to be able to pay the cast, then they should have cut out cast members to at least see what the reaction would be from views//fans of the show.
I cannot believe that this show was cancelled! I loved this show, and can’t believe that the network is going to attempt a copy cat show that I am now scared to start watching, Love how this network gives the axe to the shows that don’t have all the dirty jokes, and sexual content. I don’t appriciate crap television, guess it’s time to get the books out since there isn’t crap on tv now!
Yes I am disappointed that they are ending the series too, I liked it soo much that I even got all the DVDs for all the seasons. I am Japanese so I really liked the fact that it had Japanese actors and actresses who spoke Japanese and also the other western actors and actresses spoke Japanese,so I felt people’s investment a lot .I hope the network will continue and put an end to all the missing pieces.
I’m disappointed in network. This show and its fans deserve and end to this storyline. If the show has been canceled due to ratings, I personnally blame the network! Between the inconsistent season openings and the way the season is spilt, lack cohesion.
The fans love this show, I think the network should show some respect for the fans!
I also always looked forward to Monday nights. I didn’t care for the one season of flash backs and forwards but we held most of it together while watching. Hopefully, NBC with Mr. Kring will at least have something to wrap it up.
We felt the same way when “Surface” ended. We wanted more! At least that was an ending of sorts.
We need to wrap up Heroes, so hope those writers get going and NBC isn’t so high an mighty to not let it air. This reality stuff is tiresome!
My teenage daughter and I both watched Heroes for all four seasons. While we both agreed that the storyline dropped off during the 4th season, we both still enjoyed it and thought it was fantastic. I’ve very disappointed to see Heroes cancelled. NBC replaced it with “Sing Off” and “Chase”??? What’s that all about?
I agree with everyone else. It makes no sence canceling one of the most popular shows on TV. Heroes was the only show I followed every week. If I wasn’t able to watch it live, I made sure to log on to the NBC website or Hulu to watch it before the next one. The ratings may have been down but the show had a very dedacated and unique following and canceling with no ending SUCKS ASS.
I thought that the show should have had a solid ending rather than an incomplete one.
NBC could have easily dealt with another one or two concluding episodes, they owed that to the fans and loyal views for their support regardless of the ratings. The show may have dropped in the ratings, but it still is known as one of the most popular shows ever.
It never surprises me when a network makes rash decisions.. Does Conan ring a bell?
I completely agree! I just started watching this on my netflix and now am completely disappointed that they couldn’t at least finish with something substantial. Far too many shows are getting canceled this way lately. What a waste of time, I could have spent it watching a show that will never get canceled despite how repetitive it gets (CSI anyone..).
You build a following and then……you cancel, makes perfect logic!
Out of all the shows on tv this was one of the few if not the only that my whole family would sit down and watch together. That’s saying a lot when you have 3 tv in your house so everyone can scatter and watch whatever they want, so when a show comes along like this I’m very sad to see it go not for just me but for our tv show night I have no clue what were going to replace it with. I think you are really missing it with this one and shame on you.
I love Heroes it is my favourite I am very dissapointed to hear that it is canceld I really hope you decide to continue it I have never missed an episode and I hope you end it well not boring .
