After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I have been watching Heroes ever since the series started and for NBC to just completely cancell the show is a bunch of crap!! At least give all the fans some closure on the series. Truly disappointing!!
Wow **** you NBC, I no longer have any reason to watch your network, an will probably never commit to one of your series again. That has to be one of the worst ways to end such a good show. All you have accomplished is to hurt your already wavering ratings, not to mentioned alienated a large group of loyal viewers. The people responsible for this descision should be fired. With idiots like this running things no wonder NBC is in the state it is
p.s. Really u should fire the people responsible
This show reallyy kept you thinking and one minute you like the Hero and in the next you are rooting for the Villian. Sometimes it would slow down which was cool because I knew the show needed variety it can’t be action packed all the time. I enjoyed the unpredictability. I difinetly buying all the DVD’s. Come on NBC I just want to watch one show! If this show doesn’t come back I want be watching tv.
I’m very disappointed. There isn’t anything on tv that I’ve watched faithfully in years. I’m sick of reality tv, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol abunch of stupid stuff. Heroes had the best actors and they all will have bright futures. Theres really isn’t anything on tv for Marvel fans to watch. I guest Marvel fans will have to wait for the Next X-men movie or Iron Man at the theatres. I hope some of the actors from HEROES can land some of the jobs for the nest Batman, Superman, X-men and etc movies that would be nice. Every Monday… Read more »
That’s right NBC has no respect for its Loyal Viewers. With Heroes going there is no reason to watch that channel anymore!! That was the best show that they had on there. Don’t say it is because of the money either. They make plenty of money on all those commercials that break-in every few minutes. Just lazy if you ask me!! Come on give us a break atleast finish up the next season, you owe your viewers that much!!
Typical crap but not accepting that is the final decision. We hear that alot of shows will be cancelled every year and a number of them are brought back after the feedback from the fans pours in. Or sometimes even other networks buy the rights if they can smell money in in doing so such as in this case. Could also be an attempt for the writers to finally read what they need to do to get the full fans support again (this should have already happened but still) There is no shortage of money/funding in entertainment so all that… Read more »
NBC has no respect for it’s loyal viewers. String us along and then just leave us hanging. How many people would buy a book with no ending or go to a movie that does have a finish? Maybe we’ve been the suckers all along. They cancel and yet we go back for more. I think I might not watch a new series until season 1 is out on DVD. Shame on you NBC.
should be a 13 part series for heroes because it is amazing cant believe it has been cancelled because it is the best show ever
Hey, NBC….
**** YOU!!!
Idiocracy really is a documentary from the future. All the good shows that require any IQ are getting cancelled and being replaced with ******* braindead so-called reality shows and contests.
great, they leave us with a cliff hanger, and now we find out the show has been cancelled. I’ve been a hard-core Heroes fan since season 1, and now we get a few hour special to completely wrap it up. great. >:[
Another reason to boycott nbc.
sad day… I have been hard core heroes fan from the beginning… I agree recently the story line got off track, but I thought for sure they’d bring it back around..
this is plain ridiculous f they don’t want 2 ring it back then they should atleast give us closure.. All the good shows that i’m watchin is ending and now flashforward and heroes got cancelled !! I’m not seeing anything good 2 replace them and they keep stoping the show after every few episodes !! Whats up with that !! Thats not fair man i hate NBC
oh and don’t get me started on Hiro……….I was still waiting on him to become the badass we saw from the future. Not this joke of a “hero” who gets turned into a kid, loses his memory, I have to save Charlie crap…..seriously !! They took characters and just ruined them as the seasons rolled on…….
For all those who are sad that Heroes ended, I ask, WHY ?? The 1st season pulled us in until it got to the the silly and lazy season finale. The 2nd season seemed like it was just all over the place. The 3rd season seemed like it would be a good X-men kind of thing and even that started to suck and the 4th season…….so we have “Magneto” and how do they end it ? With him and Peter mostly talking, shaking the ground and ummm….that’s it ?? Oh I’m sorry, the part where he loses his powers because… Read more »
