After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

What is wrong with the Network???? One of the VERY few good shows on the air.
How about getting rid of one of the pre-rigged so called reality shows that everyone knows what is going to happen before the show starts??
NBC definitely sucks! The two shows I watched; Lost and Heroes off the air for good. I’ll stick with ABC and my Fox news channels from now on. Odios NBC
I just wish NBC would sell SNL to another station so I could completely block them on my DirecTv DVR.
WHAT?…. Come on. I love this series, so does a lot of people. Yes, this one has a huge cast. And that’s the best part of it. Is not the same lame thing over and over. The best part is that there’re always some hidden past and dark secrets, specially with the Angela Patrelli charecter. I can’t believe it…. No more Claire, No more Peter and specially No more SYLAR? awwwww man.
NBC you are retarded!!!!! No one will watch a stupid drama instead of heroes……………………………………………..
this does suck ,this was something my hole fam watched together , now what will we watch ,,you must end it for us some how!!!!!!!!!!!!

nbc sucks,one of two shows i dvr’d &lost ; i’m lost &hero less
Yes I’m sad that Heroes is ending because you become involved in each and everyone of their lives as if you’ve personally gotten to know them. I had looked forward to seeing a new show every week, looking forward to a new event unfold as the pieces where finally starting to fit. But alas, all good things come to an end so I will just enjoy watching re-runs of old episodes from all four seasons. Thanks NBC I truly enjoyed this program while it lasted. If you do change your mind about season 5, I would be so happy and… Read more »
i think it succs that heroes was cancelled it was my fav shows n now i don’t know how its gonna
My wife and I recently started watching Heroes and we love it. I had friends telling me about it for the longest time, and I never really gave it a chance. But, as soon as we got the complete first season on DVD we were hooked. They have to bring some closure to a series. NBC has a knack for cancelling good TV without giving it a chance. Conan, Life, Heroes. All excellent shows. I guess it’s all politics. I mean, Jay Leno still has a job. We have made it through the entire series, but we only have one… Read more »
i wish they hadn’t cancelled it… i think they should’ve cut The Event and kept Heroes 😐 i think it was a very good show (although the storyline was getting cheesy) i still would’ve watched it every monday night like usual.
thanks for nothing NBC, what am I supose to do now?
I am in shock at the cancellation news. It was indeed the one show I looked forward to every year with great anticipation. I do at least hope they pay tribute with a serious wrap up special 2 or 4 hour show. As fans and their are many, it would be the righteous thing to do.
Hey NBC executives … Why is it when u have something good you cant see the forest among the trees? This was the best Sci Fi TV series, better than farscape! Why do I bother even watching your network? the least you can do is make a finale for the show and yet you just blow it all away…. I stopped watching NBC now… I hate it when you people cant follow through… if you start something you should at least have a ending. If I had the super power of the heroes puppet master I’d make you guys drink… Read more »
