You can’t keep the home fires burning in UK. The Home Fires TV show has been cancelled by ITV. Actor Daniel Ryan, who played Bryn Brindsley in the World War II era drama, broke the bad news on Twitter. His tweet reads: “So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield also tweeted about the Home Fires cancellation, saying: “So very sorry that #Homefires won’t be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.” The Home Fires cast also includes: Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Ed Stoppard, Chris Coghill, Clare Calbraith, Fenella Woolgar, Mark Bazeley, and Mike Noble. Many of them have tweeted about the cancellation, too.
The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain. Two weeks after the defeat at Dunkirk, with the German army advancing through France, Britain braces itself for invasion.
Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Let us know, below.
This is the best show! I can’t believe it would be cancelled, especially ending on such a cliffhanger. I know a lot of people like it! At least do a wrap up episode or something!
On my gosh! Please bring back Home Fires. I have watched it on Masterpiece Classic, and I’m across the pond in the States. It’s a wonderful, gripping moving tale about these extraordinary lives during WWII. At 97% response on bringing it back, how can you not see this is what viewers want to watch!!!!! BRING IT BACK!
No rationale for cancelling Home Fires where the viewers who love it are sufficient in number and everything left hanging. Sadistic and makes me never want to start a series again under your control. Poor judgment
I loved this show. Right up there with my other favorites, Downton Abbey and A Place to Call Home. Just don’t understand something this good getting the axe.
Oh, we just finished watching season 2 and we love the show. Can hardly believe they cancelled it! What is wrong with the producers!? Please reconsider!!!! Bring it back! The characters are wonderful, the setting, the story–you must finish it! It is left hanging with no end.
This was a wonderful show; terrifically written and expertly acted. Please bring it back. The program showed life at home, which is something one doesn’t think about. All the emphasis goes to those fighting on the frontlines, but the importance of what happened at home was just as important.
Thank you.
Please reconsider canceling Home Fires. It is so well done and important for current generations to have a feel for war and what it meant to those left behind.
We purchased the videos of both seasons of Home Fires, as we were unable to watch the telecast. And last night we were dismayed and felt betrayed as we watched the final episode of season 2. It was a brilliantly written, cast, and acted show, got us completely involved, and we were left hanging. How can any responsible producer allow this? We will be looking for and buying the book once the author can finish it, and thanks to him for letting us know what happened. But we are disgusted with whoever canceled the TV series. Maybe once the book… Read more »
There was a very large fan base in the U.S. so we really do not understand why such a seemingly popular show enjoyed on both sides of the Atlantic would be cancelled so abruptly.
I live in U.S. so we got Home Fires later than in UK. Just found out show was cancelled. Terrible new! One of my favorite shows and was so looking forward to another season. Shame on you!
Please don’t cancel this wonderful series. It is truly one of the few quality shows. I love that it shows the strength and endurance of the human spirit, especially that of women, during very difficult times.I love the show and am so saddened and disappointed by this decision.
Loved Home Fires. Great acting and writing. One of my all time favorites.
Another quality show cancelled why? Something I don’t mind paying for. Please reconsider.
Totally unacceptable to cancel this show especially after such a cliffhanger last episode. This was a great show. A show with class, grace, and heart and great acting. Not a note of it rang untrue. It is appalling that this show was cancelled after 6 million British viewers (and I don’t know how many Americans–like my wife and I -have discovered this gem). It is an unparalleled shame that they ended it where they did. There is plenty of mediocre fare on TV (that does not hold a candle to this show) that doesn’t get cancelled. The reasoning in cancelling… Read more »
How dare you leave us when many women from all over have recognized themselves in these characters? Change your mind! Admit it could be better the second time around; and we would forgive you. I will honestly miss these characters above most others.
For goodness sake, finish the series so we can reach closure. We do not want to read a conclusion, we want to see it dramatized. Is the problem that you can’t figure out how to bring the characters forward? Put your thinking cap on and get it done!!! Please….
