The production schedule has been adjusted for the sixth season of the Homeland TV show on Showtime, Deadline reports. Rupert Friend who is in the first two episodes of season six, directed by Keith Gordon, broke a bone in his right ankle. According to the report, Friend did not injure himself on the job, but the injury is related to two earlier on-set instances, when he rolled his ankle, while shooting seasons four and five.
Executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter — slated to direct the third and fourth episodes — will shoot scenes from her episodes, to work around Friend’s injury. Created by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, the counter-terrorism drama also stars Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin. Homeland season six is still set to premiere on Sunday, January 15th at 9:00pm ET/PT, on Showtime.
Deadline attended Homeland‘s pre-Emmy party on Saturday evening and caught up with Friend. Here is more:
“Everyone has been very accommodating,” Friend told Deadline. He hopes that the soft cast will come off in a couple of weeks, at which time he would be able to resume filming in full-force and filming on the first two episodes of the season will be completed.
The fact that Friend’s ankle injury has so significantly impacted production on Homeland is further proof that his character Peter Quinn, last seen lying motionless in a hospital bed in the Season 5 finale, is back in action and no longer in a coma.
The injury has pushed production of Homeland back a little but there will be no issue making the January 15, 2017 premiere date, executive producer/showrunner Alex Gansa told Deadline.
The upcoming sixth season is set after the US presidential election. Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) has won the White House. Season six will shoot mostly in New York, but some of the season is set in Abu Dhabi and Israel. Morocco will stand in for those locations.
Here is a picture from Friend’s Instagram account, of the actor with athlete Aimee Mullins. His crutches are prominently displayed.

That is not reality! people don’t just die all around us, especially the people She loves….. While I love this series and would continue to watch it as long as it has new seasons. I would like to see Carrie with a cured Quinn who faked his death to stay out of site until he could have surgery to repair the damage caused by the Sarin gas attack. Then… Read more »
