Investigation Discovery isn’t done with the case of Richard Glossip. This week, the network announced they’ve ordered an additional episode of the TV show Killing Richard Glossip.
From Joe Berlinger, the docuseries “follows the story of two men convicted of murder – one on death row, and the other sentenced to life without parole – who give two very different accounts of what led to the slaying of Barry Van Treese on January 7, 1997 at the Best Budget Inn in Oklahoma City. The series just premiered on April 17th.
Because of new developments in Glossip’s case, Investigation Discovery has ordered an additional episode of the docuseries, which will air later this year and follow “what could be the final days of Glossip’s life.”

(Silver Spring, Md.) – Is the state of Oklahoma about to execute an innocent man? That chilling question is at the heart of Investigation Discovery’s (ID) all-new real-time documentary series, KILLING RICHARD GLOSSIP, created and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Joe Berlinger. As new developments come to light in Richard Glossip’s case, ID announced today it has greenlit a fifth episode of the docu-series that is in production now and will air later in 2017. The first four episodes are set to premiere exclusively on ID in a two-night event beginning tonight, Monday, April 17 at 9/8c. The new installment will pick up where the series leaves off.
“With our cameras capturing both the work of Glossip’s legal team as well as our own investigation, we have documented several important new discoveries and leads that are critical to Richard Glossip’s legal case,” said Berlinger. “As the clock ticks down to what could be the final days of Glossip’s life, we are gratified that ID will air a fifth episode later this spring to give viewers – and the State of Oklahoma – the latest developments on this ever-evolving case, and to provide deeper exploration into some of the leads uncovered in the first four episodes, in order to help prevent a tragic miscarriage of justice.”
KILLING RICHARD GLOSSIP follows the story of two men convicted of murder – one on death row, and the other sentenced to life without parole – who give two very different accounts of what led to the slaying of Barry Van Treese on January 7, 1997 at the Best Budget Inn in Oklahoma City. Richard Glossip, a man with no prior felony convictions, has consistently maintained his innocence, insisting that he had no knowledge that anyone planned to kill Van Treese. Justin Sneed, who admitted to killing the victim and whose fingerprints were found in the room, cut a deal to receive a life sentence instead of risking the death penalty by telling the police that Glossip hired him to do it. As Glossip continues to narrowly avoid execution by the state of Oklahoma, Berlinger’s cameras are embedded with his legal team in real-time as they race against the clock to uncover new evidence that proves his innocence.
Berlinger has dedicated his career to exposing abuses in the criminal justice system, most notably with Academy Award(R)- nominated, Peabody-and Emmy(R)-winning Paradise Lost trilogy of documentaries famously helped lead to the release of one man from death row and two others from life in prison. Every second counts as Glossip sits on death row awaiting execution, and now Berlinger’s cameras are there with exclusive access to capture each moment as the clock ticks down. With support growing worldwide for Glossip, the docu-series also features interviews with high-profile supporters including Academy Award(R)-winning actress Susan Sarandon, billionaire entrepreneur and social activist Richard Branson, and anti-death penalty activist and author Sister Helen Prejean (Dead Man Walking) who, at the eleventh hour, heroically pursued attorneys Don Knight and Mark Olive, convincing them to devote their time to the Glossip case pro-bono.”
What do you think? Did you see the premiere of Killing Richard Glossip? Will you watch the follow-up episode?
Oklahoma is aka prison capital of the world It should also be known as wrongful conviction capital of the world. Oklahoma is stained by more than the earth’s red dirt. The district attorneys are not speaking for The People. Let me be clear- The People of Oklahoma do not support wrongful convictions and imprisonment. We don’t support the policy violations and conflicts of interest that lead to aforementioned either. There’s been a lot of injustice in the state, I’m sure black magic will ring a bell. Joyce Gilchrist. She might be gone but her ghost is still around. The traditions… Read more »
I am more than willing and curious about the next episode. My question is this was steed’s character challenged and or discredited? I believe glossip is innocent and hopefully any new evidence will show and prove that there was an injustice!
Not at all, Justin Sneed is delusional. Literally, I mean he truly is.
I think he is innocent and they don’t want to make fools out of themselves. They can’t admit they are wrong so now they will put an innocent man to death. The guy who killed him changed his story so many times it’s insane and all of the so called missing money it was all accounted, so that’s why I know they don’t want to admit they screwed up so bad. I really hope they over turn his sentence and set him free. His first lawyer even said he didn’t do his job.
As I watched this documentary, I began to feel sick. Richard Glossip was a young man who had no idea what was happening to him and then was railroaded by some lazy police officers with blinders on that just wanted to quickly close a case. Richard then having no idea about the justice system, hired an attorney who defended him as well as Richard would have done if he had defended himself. I not being an attorney, am quite sure I could have done a better job. This all being said, this man at least derserves a new trial with… Read more »
This is a great series and I would definitely watch another episode. Hopefully, that will be the episode that shows him being released. Talk about gross injustice.

This is a truly unjust situation. Heartbreaking.
I’ve been a supporter for awhile. #Justiceforrichardglossip
Defective detectives, incomplete investigations, prejudiced prosecutors, jaundiced juries, and a dubious district attorney have all colluded, in an unrelenting, twenty year threat, to execute an innocent man, to cover their own sins.
“Killing Richard Glossip” is a compelling compilation of facts that clearly indicate that Richard Glossip is innocent. This has been a horrible miscarriage of justice. Those in power must erase the original conviction of Mr. Glossip and try to correct this horrible act of injustice. Thank you to director Joe Berlinger for recognizing the need for this film to be made.
